If you don’t know this already, welcome back from the cave. Of course, everyone loves good food but an African man loves food twice as much to fuel all that energy. If you cook it yourself, that’s a plus. If not, don’t be ashamed to order his favorite delicacies from trusted chefs online. The goal is to ensure that the most tantalizing dishes are available to pull his heart’s strings at your will. As they say, the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.

#2. Know your man’s choice of music and indulge it

Since the beginning of the 2000s, African pop music has enjoyed global attention, and currently, Afrobeats and its fusions are the tunes of the moment. It started with “African Queen” by 2Baba Idibia and now, Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy, and Rema are making waves around the world. What’s more, African men take pride in their music, so to draw yours closer to you, pick an interest in his preferred sound. It doesn’t necessarily have to be Afrobeats; just discover his beloved tune and indulge in it.

#3. Understand his sense of style and reward it

With the embrace of African music in North America and Europe, there has also been an appreciation of African fashion. The fashion sensibilities of African men are top-notch and can sometimes lean toward unconventional thanks to designers like Ugo Monye and Mai Atafo. If you’re blessed with a man who takes his appearance seriously (like most African men do), then feed his vanity with impressive outfits. From traditional African menswear like “agbada,” “isi-agu,” and “senator” to contemporary options like a nicely tailored suit, you’ll find that your big man will swoon over you due to these gifts. Yup, it works on me, and I am sure it’ll work on anyone else.

#4. Be interested in sports

An African proverb says to get something from a child, behave like a child. If you want something from someone, you may want to think like them. Most African men appreciate sports, and by “sports,” I mean football, aka, soccer. They can hold a conversation on this topic for hours, and wouldn’t even notice it, especially if it’s accompanied by a good beer or palm wine. Appeal to this side of him by becoming acquainted with his favorite team and players. He will beam with pride when you tell him that Cristiano Ronaldo is better than Lionel Messi or vice versa, depending on who he favors. (Here’s a tip: don’t mix them up and mistakenly bash his favorite as they tend to take this argument to heart. Lolz).

#5. Reassure faith in his skill

A lot of men are silly and they know it. But the sane ones, one of which you have bagged, may go through a lot and would require affirmations of love and faith. The world is stressful and depressing for most people, including your African man. This is where you come in: take a few minutes out of your busy day to reassure faith in him — whether with a phone call or a message. Speak to him kindly, remind him that he’s the best in the world and you’ll see him move mountains for you.
