What You Need To Know About Washing Your Natural Hair

Would you believe it if I told you that Little Miss Hygiene who washes her hair daily is getting it all wrong? Oops! The irony of life. How often you wash your natural hair depends on your hair type and way of life, but you most certainly don’t have to wash it every single day.

While some hair textures require washing at least once a week, some might need to be washed more often. Generally, washing your hair daily would only succeed in ridding your hair of its natural oils leaving it dry and coarse. Simply put, there are no hard and fast rules when it comes to washing your natural hair but a lot of factors come into play.

Check out a few ways to know when to wash your natural hair…

#1. Wash when hair is dirty

This saves you the stress of creating a hair washing timetable that you need to strictly adhere to. Your lifestyle determines greatly how dirty your hair can get. There are periods in life when you are more physically active and as a result, sweat more, or you spend more time outdoors consequently exposing your hair to dust, pollen, and the likes. The dirtier your hair, the more often you should wash it. That is to say, there’s no one-size-fits-all approach.

#2. Wash when you have a buildup

Sometimes, your hair appears dirty because of all the styling products that have accumulated in it. If this isn’t washed off quickly, it could lead to damage to both the hair and scalp. When using products that can cause build-up, schedule a wash day to rid your hair of potential damage.

#3. Hair texture

The thicker and curlier the hair, the less often it should be washed. On the contrary, thin hair should be washed more frequently because it tends to grease faster.

Having a knowledge of what works for you and your hair would save you from either over-washing or under-washing your natural hair. Opt for mild hair products and more protective hairstyles to aid hair growth.
