Here Are The 5 Most Searched For Songs In Nigeria In 2018
A fashion and pop culture storyteller by day and Beyoncé’s…
2018 has definitely been eventful with so many great moments, especially in the Nigerian music industry. Over the past couple of months, we’ve witnessed some of our favourite musicians release so many club jams, sultry RnB tracks and soulful nostalgic Afrocentric ballads and truth be told, when one looks back one is in awe of all the amazing releases we’ve had this year.
With all these releases, it’s understandable to wonder which songs truly defined 2018? Which ones were the most listened to?
Well, there are many ways to calculate this but thanks to Google releasing the most searched Nigerian songs of 2018, we have an idea which songs people searched for the most!
Here are the most popular Nigerian songs in 2018…
5. Davido | Nwa Baby
It only makes sense that this list would be started by Davido. The superstar has had quite the year. From surprisingly starting his service year at the National Service Youth Corps – the compulsory one year spent by a Nigerian serving their country after their university education – to back to back quality musical releases. I honestly can’t wait to see what he has planned for next year!
4. Olamide – Motigbana
One of Nigeria and Africa’s best rappers – the insanely talented Olamide – started off a sensational dance craze (not for the first time, remember Shakiti bobo?) this year with his hit song Motigbana and I would honestly have been surprised if it didn’t make this list.
3. Olamide | Science Student
Coming up as number three in the list of most Google-searched Nigerian songs of 2018 is the iconic Science Student by Olamide, of course. I think if we were to make a list of the most popular Nigerian songs over the past few years and Science Student is missing from the list, many people would probably start a riot.
2. Davido | Assurance
You probably clicked this article expecting to see Davido’s Assurance. Well, here it is! Ranking at number two of the most Google-searched Nigerian songs, we have to admit that this song absolutely deserves this spot. The simple, funny yet beautiful song is probably one of the best in Davido’s impeccable discography and one of the songs which shaped 2018 musically.
1. Wizkid ft Tiwa Savage | Fever
Topping the chart is Fever by two of Nigeria’s best musical acts – Wizkid and Tiwa Savage. With Wizkid and Tiwa Savage on a song, it is unsurprising that it is topping this list especially when one takes into consideration the controversy surrounding the song’s visuals, which had the song trending on social media. Indeed, everywhere STEW!
