As celebs ushered in the award season, they did so flaunting easy, breezy beats that complemented their [oftentimes] grand red carpet numbers and showstopping jewelry. Interestingly, while the makeup played the soft card, the hairstyles went hard, offering a clever juxtaposition of both ends of the beauty game.

There’s no denying that Hollywood A-lister, Angela Bassett is a perfect specimen of fine wine. Last week, the star graced the red carpet of the 28th Annual Critic’s Choice Award in a tiered Christian Siriano number complemented with Christian Louboutin shoes, and Messika jewelry. In as much as her ensemble stole the show, it was her soft and easy face beat that gave us the hots. The look, created by D’Andre Michael, featured purple tones across her lips and cheeks that flattered her skin tone.
At the Golden Globes last week, vocal powerhouse, Jennifer Hudson stunned in a shimmering gold number. Such a statement-making dress required a toned-down doll-up to perfectly marry it in order to create a well cohesive style moment. And of course, that was delivered! For the night, the new talk show host opted for a subtle makeup look that featured brown tones across her eyelids with a touch of gold eyeshadow, a sharp wing, and nude lips. Certainly, an effective way to make a statement without trying too hard.

While some stars opted for a “chilled” face beat, others came in with bells and whistles in the hair department. For instance, Holywood sensation Saweetie turned to a butt-length blonde wavy hairstyle for a live performance last week.
