Bozoma Saint John-Watson’s wedding to Keely Watson in Accra was never going to be a conventional celebrity wedding. Saint John-Watson was particularly intentional about making the wedding wholly Ghanaian. Even the dress code reinforced that vision, with guests asked to wear formal kente, and specifically woven kente rather than printed fabric.

For the reception, Yeboah created another custom look featuring fern motifs. Saint John-Watson chose the fern because it represented resilience and reflected the courage and strength that had shaped her journey to that moment.

Watson has also become connected to Saint John-Watson’s relationship with Ghana. His own citizenship journey became part of the broader story of the couple’s connection to the country, making their decision to marry there feel even more significant.

What Accra Meant to the Couple
The decision to hold the wedding in Ghana also connected to Saint John-Watson’s longstanding work around Africa’s image and economic potential.
She previously became involved with Ghana’s Year of Return initiative, which encouraged members of the African diaspora to reconnect with the continent. Since then, she has continued advocating for African creativity, entrepreneurship and tourism.
The wedding allowed her to put those beliefs into practice. Choosing Accra meant directing attention, guests and spending toward Ghana while showcasing the country’s designers, artisans, textile traditions and hospitality.
In that sense, her wedding to Watson became both an intimate celebration and a larger cultural statement.
A Different Definition of Luxury
What made Saint John-Watson’s wedding fashion so compelling was its refusal to separate African tradition from luxury.
