1. Beyoncé contributes another $500K donation for COVID-19 relief
Beyoncé and her BeyGOOD foundation are working to save the homes of Americans who are facing eviction amid the COVID-19 pandemic. “Phase Two of the BeyGOOD Impact Fund will now help those impacted by the housing crisis,” the foundation announced. “The housing moratorium is set to end on Dec. 26, resulting in mortgage foreclosures and rental evictions. Many families are impacted, due to the pandemic, [which has]resulted in job loss, sickness, and overall economy downturn.”
The organization added that: “Beyoncé is giving $5,000 grants to individuals and families facing foreclosures or evictions due to COVID-19. All necessary documentation must be provided to the NAACP.” Applications open on Jan. 7, 2021, and funds will be dispersed later in the month. Round 2 of the grants will open in February.
2. Nigeria: Davido and Burna Boy involved in physical combat in Accra
Nigerian musicians, Davido and Burna Boy have gotten themselves in a dirty fight while they were both in Ghana and clashed at a night club in Accra. According to reports from people who were at the event, things got out of hand to the extent that guests took to their heels.
It is not particularly clear what sparked the clash on the night of the incident but Burna Boy and Davido have long been rumored to have had a standing beef between them. Accoding to fans, the beef is so intense that Davido’s hit song “Fem” was said to be a dig at the African Giant. Beyoncé COVID-19 donations.
3. South Africa: Prince Kaybee encourages fans to support black businesses
Award-winning DJ and music producer Prince Kaybee took to Twitter to encourage his followers to support black businesses. With the COVID-19 pandemic in full swing and the economic damage taking a toll on South Africa, Kaybee said that he hopes that there will be more support for black businesses.
The star highlighted the historical economic struggles of the black community, saying there needs to be more support for black business in South Africa and leave room for some disappointment as it is only human to make mistakes.
4. COVID-19: Ghana’s active case count increases to 871
The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has announced 65 new COVID-19 cases, increasing the country’s active case count to 871. In a December 26 update, the GHS also revealed that the death toll remains 333. The country now has a total cumulative case count of 54,286 and 53,082 recoveries from the illness.
Meanwhile, the Director of Public Health at the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Franklin Asiedu-Bekoe has disclosed that testing is ongoing to determine if the new variant of the Coronavirus is in the country. Beyoncé COVID-19 donations.
5. Ronaldo beats Messi to be crowned Player of the Century at Globe Soccer Awards
Cristiano Ronaldo and Pep Guardiola were honored at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai, the duo named player and coach of the century respectively. Juventus forward Ronaldo picked up the award in person at a ceremony held at the Armani Hotel on Sunday, beating longtime rival Lionel Messi to the prize.
The 35-year-old, who has won domestic league titles in Spain, England, and Italy and Euro 2016 with Portugal, admitted his pride at receiving the accolade, given to the player judged the best between 2001 and 2020.
