This year, the world changed! The fashion world was not left out as fashion weeks either went virtual or had minimal guests. ARISE Fashion Week 2020 was not left out of the change either, as they embraced it. The continent’s most prominent fashion show had to adapt amid the coronavirus pandemic by going virtual and streaming to a global audience across multiple platforms.
With the theme ’30 under 30: The New Stars,’ this years’ edition marked the first time the fashion event is awarding monetary prizes to designers. “The whole idea is to help assist young designers in building their brands. We need a breath of fresh air. We need younger people to get into this space and be given the accreditation they certainly deserve.” – Ruth Osime.
Day 2, being the final day had 10 designers send their looks down the runway as top artistes like Asa, Ré Olonuga, Falana, and Wande Coal entertained the audience. As ARISE Fashion Week came to an end, the organizers kept to the theme of the event as Naomi Campbell named the top eight designers from the crop of 30 designers who showcased their work. Among the top eight were Lagos Space Programme, Ziva Lagos, TJWho, Onalaja, and Ajabeng. ARISE Fashion Week Day 2.
Nigerian designer Kenneth Ize emerged as the winner of the 30 Under 30 competition and was rewarded with a $100,000 cash prize. Runner-ups Ré Lagos and South African designer Mmuso Maxwell received $75,000 and $50,000, respectively.
