AMVCA 2024: The 30 Most Rave-worthy Looks Of The Night

The 10th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs), held on May 11, 2024, and hosted by IK Osakioduwa, was more than just a celebration of cinematic excellence. Once again, the red carpet served as a runway for Africa’s most stylish stars, flaunting groundbreaking fashion and creating unforgettable moments. From bold statements to timeless elegance, let’s take a look at the celebrities who truly stole the show with their sartorial choices.

The radiant host of the red carpet, Toke Makinwa, commanded attention in a shimmering metallic mermaid gown by Nigerian designer Veekee James. The dramatic oversized sculptural piece on the bust area added a theatrical touch, ensuring a grand entrance befitting the prestigious event.

Once again, Ghanaian actress Nana Akua Addo garnered attention both online and offline with her stunning ensemble by Ghanaian fashion brand, Yoli Koomson, at the 10th African Magic Viewers Choice Awards. She donned an unconventional dress crafted from special 3D material. Accentuating the outfit, she paired it with Heidilee’s Endless Echo hat, adding an extra layer of drama. Completing the ensemble, she accessorized with a shiny shell Chanel clutch, giving the look the much-needed evening touch.

Amidst a sea of dazzling gowns, Actress Osas Ighodaro asserted her fashion prowess at the AMVCA Awards. Breaking away from the ubiquitous corset trend, Ighodaro opted for a striking creation by Veekee James. The dress captivated with its intricate design featuring fine lines and circles, offering a refreshing departure and cementing her status as a red carpet icon.

While the spotlight often shines on the ladies on the red carpet, some men made their mark as well. On-Air-Personality Do2dtun turned heads with his attire at the 2024 AMVCAs. He donned a skillfully tailored dark-red bedazzled coat by House of Vieve, paired perfectly with a matching tie and a black shirt underneath. His slightly loose, dark red pants exuded trendiness, complementing his overall look. Adding a touch of coolness and fashion-forwardness, he topped it off with dark sunglasses.

Singer Chike opted for a playful yet stylish approach with colors this year, and it certainly paid off! Sporting a cropped pink suit jacket, he exuded vibes reminiscent of a cool anime character. Underneath, an orange dress shirt provided a delightful pop of color. His pink trousers, embellished with embroidered designs, added further flair to his ensemble. Chike’s outfit by Emmy Kasbit struck the perfect balance between playful and sophisticated, ensuring he stood out on the red carpet.

While fashion ruled the night, the show stood on business as cinematic achievements were celebrated. “Breath of Life” was the biggest winner at this year’s award ceremony. The movie clinched six categories, including Best Lead Actor, which went to Wale Ojo, Best Supporting Actor, which went to Ademola Adedoyin, Best Supporting Actress, which went to Genoveva Umeh, Best Director, to BB Sasore, Best Sound Design; and Best Movie.

Chimezie Imo, a rising star in the Nigerian film industry, took home the Trailblazer award. This came as a positive shock for both him and viewers alike, as the actor was not nominated in the Best Actor category for his role in “Breathe of Life.”

The 10th AMVCAs once again underscored the formidable presence of African fashion on the global stage. Celebrities embraced their heritage with gusto, flaunting bold colors, intricate patterns, and the incorporation of traditional elements. This showcase not only celebrated the incredible talent of African designers but also highlighted the rich diversity and creativity within the industry. As the African fashion landscape continues to evolve, anticipation mounts for even more groundbreaking looks and showstopping moments at future editions of the AMVCAs.
