When a legend passes on, the world weeps! Aretha Louise Franklin may be gone but she would forever remain in our hearts as the Queen of soul. Aretha passed away on Thursday, 16th August at the age of 76 due to advanced pancreatic cancer.
The American singer, songwriter and pianist who began her career as a child singing gospel, had 31 studio albums and won 18 Grammy Awards with 17 top-10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Indeed, she is a legend!
Aretha was said to have been the ultimate diva in terms of both her music and her style. Her onstage outfits were ever so dramatic and performing in bold designs featuring fur, feathers, sequins and fringe details was her signature. Over the years, she evolved from form-fitting dresses in the sixties to eccentric caftans in the nineties. However, fans could still see her luxurious approach to her dressing.
Aretha definitely owned her over-the-top styles. She loved her minks floor length, her dress slits endless, her embroidery shiny with gold and precious gems. The queen of soul would always choose classic style over fashion and has proven that, no matter what society says, women don’t have to stop having fun with fashion at any particular age or size.
