Met Gala 2023: 23 Of The Most Rave-worthy Looks Of The Night

After earnestly awaiting the annual resurgence of the Met Gala and the extravagant fits the stars often parade in for the occasion, our hopes were met (pun intended) on Monday night as the 2023 Met Gala brought the stars out to play. As usual, the event took place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and for this rendition celebs were required to come correct in their finest Karl Lagerfeld-inspired attire.

Participants were encouraged to wear works in remembrance of the late designer, who famously was at the helm of Chanel, as well as Fendi, Chloe, Balmain, Jean Patou, and his own namesake label throughout his illustrious career. The exhibit, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” which runs from Friday, May 5 through July 16 at the museum, “spotlights Lagerfeld’s unique working methodology, focusing on the late designer’s stylistic vocabulary as it was expressed in ‘through lines’—aesthetic and conceptual themes that appear time and again—in his fashions from the 1950s to his final collection in 2019,” as per the Met Museum. This year’s event was hosted by Penélope Cruz, Michaela Coel, Roger Federer, and Dua Lipa. True to its nature, the Met Gala is where the biggest celebrities flaunt their sense of style, and this year’s offerings didn’t disappoint.

Keke Palmer came looking like the mother she is, standing statuesque and lovely in a strapless tweed dress, replete with an elaborate train, while Nicole Kidman set the mood in the 2004 Chanel gown from her classic ad. Doja Cat brought Chanel and camp, paying tribute to the late designer by dressing as his cat Choupette. She created the look using a hooded Oscar de la Renta gown, which required over 5,000 hours of labor to complete, sewing 350,000 silver and white bugle beads while her friend made the facial prosthetics.

Co-host Dua Lipa wore a white tweed princess gown from Chanel’s autumn 1992 haute couture collection, which was first worn on the runway by Lagerfeld muse Claudia Schiffer. Penelope Cruz played the role of the picture-perfect bride while sporting an outfit from Lagerfeld’s 1988 Chanel haute couture collection. Meanwhile, Dwyane Wade chose a Prada outfit for the occasion as Pusha T wore Thom Browne.

Attendees at the Met demonstrated the late designer’s concepts of style in exhilarating fashion shows. Here are some of our favorite attires worn by famous people on the red carpet.

Check out our top 23 stars who did justice to this year’s theme…
