Sad times in the fashion industry as celebrity designer and former Project Runway judge, Zac Posen, announces the shut down of his fashion house, The House of Z, after failing to find new investors or a buyer for the business.
Zac Posen has been a red carpet favourite for close to two decades after launching his label in 2001 at the age of 21 and it is sad to see the business shut down. In an exclusive interview with Vogue, Zac said “I’ve been personally trying to find the right partner for some time. But time ran out, and the difficult climate out there… it’s not an easy time in our industry.”
According to the press release, “the Board of Managers made this difficult decision following a comprehensive strategic and financial review of the businesses… The Board of Managers is disappointed with this outcome but can no longer continue operations and believe an orderly disposition at this stage is the best course of action, under the circumstances.”
Zac Posen has dressed the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow, Uma Thurman, Kate Winslet, Naomi Campbell, Rihanna, Katie Holmes, Sarah Jessica Parker, Deepika Padukone, Michelle Obama, Amal Clooney and many more who were regularly wear his designs. He was even responsible for designing Princess Eugenie’s second wedding gown, which she wore to her evening reception.
According to Vogue, Zac is taking the time to reflect and regroup and also to look at the world we’re living in and figure what the next move is, where he can share his creativity and his love, and build another community.
He continues to serve as the creative director of Brooks Brothers’ women’s line, having been appointed to the position in 2014.
