President Joe Biden on Tuesday announced the first members of the President’s Advisory Council on African Diaspora Engagement, including actress Viola Davis, who will advise Washington on deepening ties with African communities. Washington has sought to stress the region’s importance and counter challenges posed by China and Russia to the US’s interests in the increasingly important region. Washington announced plans to establish the council in December last year during the US-Africa Leaders Summit, which aimed to deepen its ties with the region. The council will advise the president on a range of issues, including how to strengthen relations between African communities and the US, promoting trade and investment, and building educational exchanges, among other issues, Judd Devermont, the National Security Council’s senior director for African Affairs, said.
The chair of the council will be Silvester Beaman, the Bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Church who pronounced the benediction at Biden’s inauguration in 2021. In addition to Davis, members include Patrick Gaspard, the president and CEO of the Center for American Progress think-tank; CD Glin, president of the PepsiCo Foundation and global head of social impact for PepsiCo; and Almaz Negash, founder of the African Diaspora Network, among others.
2. Burna Boy announces North American tour
Burna Boy has revealed the schedule for his upcoming North American tour supporting his album “I Told Them…” The Nigerian Afrobeats artist will kick off his tour on the West Coast in Los Angeles in November and trek across the United States and Canada before performing at Afro Nation Nigeria in Lagos on December 19 and 20. Afterward, the “Last Last” singer will return stateside for a string of concerts in Minneapolis, Chicago, and Toronto, among other cities.

Rapper Nasty C is joining the world of musicians who have profiled their lives in a documentary. MTV took to its Instagram timeline to announce that the rapper was sharing his life with the media outlet—something he rarely does, as he generally plays his cards close to his chest. “Ivyson Army, stand up! The Documentary premieres Thurs 28 Sep at 16:30 CAT | CH322 on @dstvza and @dstvza stream,” wrote the channel.
4. Daveed Diggs and Emmy Raver-Lampman announce they are having a baby
Daveed Diggs will soon become a dad. On Tuesday, September 26, the “Little Mermaid” actor and Emmy Raver-Lampman took to Instagram to share the news that they were expecting their first child together. In the sweet photo, the Broadway stars are glowing with joy as they hold her belly. “We can’t wait to meet you ❤️,” they captioned the post.
The mom-to-be wore a long black dress accentuating her belly bump, while Diggs rocked a mocha brown matching set with hints of black and vanilla. And for this family, they know how to rock natural hair. Diggs was handsome with medium-length locs, while Raver-Lampman wore small braids with crinkled ends in a half-up, half-down style with baby hairs. Diggs is captured in one frame of their post, planting a sweet kiss on his lady’s forehead. In another snap, they are seen in a joyous laugh as Raver-Lampman rests her hand on her beau’s chest.

Chelsea captain Reece James has been charged by the Football Association (FA) for confronting an official after his team’s defeat against Aston Villa. The full-back was out injured for Sunday’s match at Stamford Bridge, which his side lost 1-0 but confronted an official in the tunnel after the final whistle. The FA has opted to charge him for allegedly directing “improper and/or insulting and/or abusive words” to the official.
James, 23, was not part of the Chelsea squad that lost to Villa at the weekend. The England international has been out of action since sustaining a hamstring injury following his team’s opening Premier League match of the season against Liverpool. However, he attended the match and took it upon himself to remonstrate with the official after the game, ending up with a possible suspension as a result.
