Monét also shared a heartfelt note of gratitude to her daughter, Hazel, who not only inspired the book but also joined her in narrating the audiobook.

2. Wizkid and Tems make Apple Music’s most-streamed songs of all time list

Nigerian superstars Wizkid and Tems have achieved a new milestone as they appear on Apple Music’s list of the most-streamed songs of all time, setting historic records for the African music industry. The list, which honors the most played songs ever on the platform, places Wizkid as the highest-ranked African artist with his global hit “One Dance,” a collaboration with Drake. The 2016 track was a chart-topping phenomenon and helped cement Wizkid’s influence on the world stage.

Tems also earned a groundbreaking spot on the chart with “Wait For U,” her Grammy-winning collaboration with Future and Drake. The powerful ballad not only solidified her international reach but also made her the highest-ranked and only female African artist to appear on the list. As both artists continue to push boundaries and elevate Afrobeats on the world stage, their inclusion on Apple Music’s most-streamed songs list is a testament to the growing influence of African music globally.

3. TikTok is building a new version of the app ahead of expected U.S. sale

TikTok is reportedly developing a new version of its app, specifically for users in the United States, as it prepares for a potential sale to a group of U.S.-based investors, according to a report by The Information. The move comes amid ongoing negotiations and political pressure, with President Donald Trump confirming discussions with China about finalizing a TikTok deal. The new app is expected to launch on U.S. app stores by September 5, while the current version will remain functional until March of next year, though the timeline could shift.

This development follows Trump’s earlier extension of the deadline for ByteDance, TikTok’s China-based parent company, to divest its U.S. assets by September 17. A previously proposed deal to spin off TikTok’s U.S. operations into a new, investor-led company had stalled after China pushed back against the plan following U.S. tariff threats. If the sale proceeds, American users will eventually be required to download the new version to continue using the platform. TikTok has not yet commented publicly on the report.

4. Rapper Shebeshxt involved in a car accident

Popular Limpopo rapper Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke, better known as Shebeshxt, has reportedly been involved in a car accident. While details surrounding the incident remain limited, a photo circulating on social media shows severe damage to his signature VW Golf R. The front-right side of the vehicle appears to have taken the full force of the impact, with a crumpled bumper, a shattered headlight, and exposed wiring indicating a major collision. It is still unclear whether Shebeshxt sustained any injuries or if there were other individuals involved.

Shebeshxt, widely known for his gritty lyrics and strong fan base across South Africa, has frequently showcased his affection for the high-performance car on social media. Following news of the accident, fans have flooded online platforms with messages of support and concern for the rapper’s well-being. As of now, his team has not released an official statement.

5. Thomas Partey charged with rape and sexual assault

Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, according to a statement from London’s Metropolitan Police. The charges involve three women and are alleged to have occurred between 2021 and 2022. Partey, 32, who was initially arrested in July 2022 while still playing for Arsenal, denies all allegations. He is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 5.

Partey’s lawyer, Jenny Wiltshire of Hickman and Rose, stated that the Ghanaian international footballer has “fully cooperated” with authorities throughout the three-year investigation and “welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name.” Arsenal, whose £45 million signing of Partey from Atlético Madrid made headlines in 2020, confirmed that his contract expired on June 30 and declined further comment due to ongoing legal proceedings. The charges include two counts of rape relating to one woman, three counts involving a second woman, and one count of sexual assault against a third. Police have urged anyone with information to come forward, affirming their ongoing support for the women involved.
