1. Tina Knowles-Lawson files for divorce from Richard Lawson after eight years of marriage

Tina Knowles-Lawson has filed for divorce from her husband Richard Lawson after eight years of marriage. According to court documents, Tina, 69, filed for divorce on Wednesday, July 26 noting “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split and listed their date of separation as Tuesday, July 25. The fashion designer also requested to terminate the court’s ability to award spousal support to her or Richard, 76, and for her name to be restored to Celestine Knowles.

The pair tied the knot in 2015 during an intimate ceremony onboard a yacht in Newport Beach, California. This marked the second marriage for both Tina and Richard. Tina split from her previous husband — Beyoncé and Solange Knowles’ father and former manager, Mathew Knowles — in 2009 after more than 30 years together. Their divorce was finalized in 2011.

2. Rema walks off stage at Atlanta show over displeasure with the venue

Nigerian international sensation Rema refused to perform in Atlanta over the poor state of the venue. On July 27, the award-winning international sensation failed to perform at the Atlanta leg of his “Rave & Roses” tour over what he described as the poor and dissatisfactory state of the venue. In a video clip captured by someone from the audience and shared on Twitter, Rema, while addressing the fans who turned out to see him, stated that Afrobeats is bigger than the venue and his fans deserve to be treated better. Although the hundreds of fans who turned out to see Rema perform would have been disappointed at his refusal to do that, they would however appreciate the prestige he accords his stagecraft and his resolution to always give his fans the best.

3. South Africa: Nadia Nakai returns to music months after boyfriend, AKA’s death

Rapper Nadia Nakai is working on new music. Taking to Twitter recently, she replied to a follower who commented on her post about being off alcohol for three weeks. “You really are serious about getting your body and health in order. [There’s] only one thing left for you to be serious about,” wrote the tweep.

Replying, Nadia said: “Yup … I’m recording babe … working on an album takes time … I will be dropping my single very soon.” When she made a comeback after a short hiatus following AKA’s death, Nadia said the love and support she received from close friends and fans assured her she would be Okay.

4. LeBron James breaks his silence as his eldest son Bronny recovers from suffering a cardiac arrest

LeBron James is thankful to everyone who has sent his family well wishes and prayers in his first public statement since Bronny James experienced a cardiac arrest. On July 25, it was reported that the 18-year-old athlete suffered a medical emergency the previous day, July 24, during a workout at the University of Southern California. During their original statement, the James family asked for privacy as they thanked USC’s staff for their efforts.

In his recent tweet, LeBron said they will share more about the situation when they’re ready. “I want to thank the countless people sending my family love and prayers,” he wrote. “We feel you, and I’m so grateful. Everyone [is] doing great. We have our family together, safe and healthy, and we feel your love. Will have more to say when we’re ready, but I wanted to tell everyone how much your support has meant to all of us!”

5. Super Falcons win World Cup match against Australia

Nigeria shocked Australia by completing a second-half turnaround to defeat the Women’s World Cup co-hosts 3-2 on Thursday and go top of Group B. There were a lot of impressive performers for Nigeria, with Ohale putting her body on the line to give her team the lead, but it was Ajibade who really caught the eye as the creative spark for the Super Falcons in attack. The forward had a hand in both of Nigeria’s first two goals and was a great outlet to give her team some respite in the latter stages, too.

While the game still hung in the balance at 2-1, the mix-up between Kennedy and Arnold was damning and really gave Australia a mountain to climb. As the goalkeeper raced out to collect a seemingly harmless ball forward, her defender headed it beyond her to allow Oshoala to score and essentially end the Matildas’ hopes of getting anything from the match. Group B will come to its conclusion on Monday, with Australia taking on Canada and Nigeria facing already-eliminated Ireland in fixtures that will decide the two qualification spots for the last 16.
