The Moschino Fall 2020 Collection Proves Jeremy Scott’s Sweet Tooth For 18th Century Fashion

It should not come as a surprise that the Moschino Fall 2020 runway show was absolutely grand and a haven of inspiration. The brand has never been one for subtlety. While Moschino’s collections often have an interesting collective theme, this one might be our favourite theme yet.
The Moschino Fall 2020 show took place Thursday night in Milan — but from the theme of the collection, it looks like designer Jeremy Scott has his sight set on Paris.
With supermodels including Kaia Gerber and Bella Hadid, who were clad in super-sized pannier-waist dresses and gravity-defying hair-wigs, Jeremy Scott let his Moschino Fall 2020 collection conjure the great Marie Antoinette.
The show featured over the top hair in colours varying from platinum and pastel pink to chestnut; renaissance print bustles, laced denim and rich velvet jacquard — the very kind of pieces royal ladies wore in the 18th century. These looks were, of course, were mixed among Moschino’s signature moto-jacket ease and matching accessories.
As the Queen of France, pre the French Revolution, was known for her love of cakes, Jeremy Scott channelled that into actual cake dresses. There was a pink-and-white off-the-shoulder number that matched the invite, a white tiered frock with orange flowers and more designs reminiscent of an actual wedding. Shaped like cakes and other sugary snacks, the bags matched the prints on the dresses.
The show was a celebration of the intersection of history, confectionery and fashion with odd pieces, most of which are not commercially marketable.
