The Nollywood industry suffers yet another loss with the shocking as it announced that Matt Alkali, a fast-rising actor popularly known as Dareng on popular Africa Magic TV series, ‘Halita‘ is dead. According to ‘Halita’ producer, Dimbo Atiya, Matt Alkali, 36, died from complication resulting from a blood clotting condition while on the set of an epic movie in Abuja. Atiya confirmed the sad news via a Facebook post where he wrote:

“Familiar Grounds Media would like to send our deepest condolences to the family of AKALI MATHEW who played the character of DARENG on the TV Series HALITA. He was one of our much-valued cast, who died on the 24th of March 2020. This extremely sad event took place suddenly while he was filming on another set for an Epic movie in a village near Keffi. This has come as a rude shock to us all and we pray that the Lord will grant his family the fortitude to bear this great loss.”

2. Six Covid-19 patients to be discharged in Lagos

The Special Assistant to the Lagos State Governor on Health, Dr Tunde Ajayi, has disclosed that six of the patients at the Infectious Disease Hospital have recovered. Ajayi via his twitter handle, @thetundeajai, said the patients would be discharged soon.

Six of our #COVID19 inpatients have recovered and will be discharged soon. There is something Lagos is doing right. Lagos takes the lead,” he wrote.

According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, 51 cases were confirmed in the country as of 11:25 pm on March 25. Also, the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, at a briefing on Wednesday said the state was tracing over 2,000 contacts.


3. Kenya confirms first coronavirus death

Kenya has reported its first death of a coronavirus patient. The country’s health minister said that the 66-year-old Kenyan man who died had underlying health conditions.

He was being treated at a hospital in the capital, Nairobi, having arrived back in Kenya two weeks ago from travels in South Africa and Eswatini, according to a statement from the health ministry.

There are currently 31 known cases of coronavirus in the country.

4. Spain reports 655 deaths in a day

The number of declared coronavirus cases in Europe topped 250,000, more than half of which are in hard-hit Italy and Spain. But over the last 24 hours, both countries reported improvements.

Spain registered 655 fatalities from the coronavirus – down from more than 700 on Wednesday, while Italy confirmed a lower rate of infections. The World Health Organization’s (WHO) European office said it saw encouraging signs, cautioning it was too early to say whether the worst had passed.


5. PSG make 100,000 euro donation to fight coronavirus in France

Paris St-Germain has made a 100,000 euro (£91,000) donation to France’s Secours Populaire charity to help fight the coronavirus crisis. The money will help provide aid and support to children, the elderly and the homeless who have been affected. It will also be used to support doctors working in the field and help to train volunteers.

France currently has the world’s fifth-highest mortality rate from coronavirus with more than 1,300 deaths.
