When it comes to books, there is no bigger cosign than getting a thumbs up from Oprah Winfrey. Kerry Washington recently celebrated that feat in a new video on Instagram. “Oooooh my god. @oprahdaily posted an excerpt of my book #ThickerthanWater!!!! RIGHT NOW! Check it out!” In the new memoir, Kerry Washington opens up about her early life—including coping with her parents’ divorce.

According to a press release, Washington’s memoir will give readers “an intimate view into both her public and private worlds — as an artist, an advocate, an entrepreneur, a mother, a daughter, a wife, a Black woman.” Thicker Than Water will be released on September 26.

3. Nas and Lil Wayne inducted into Billboard’s new Hip Hop Hall Of Fame

Rap luminaries Nas and Lil Wayne have taken their rightful places among the inaugural inductees of Billboard’s freshly minted Hip Hop Hall of Fame. The Grammy Award winners reflected on the honor, presented by Billboard‘s Executive Director of R&B/Hip Hop, Gail Mitchell, during the publication’s 2023 R&B and Hip-Hop Power Players event in Los Angeles on Tuesday. Wayne began his acceptance speech, giving thanks “to the man up above” and “those that we lost, those that we wish were here. We thank you as well…”

The “A Milli” emcee thanked his fans noting, “I think I worded it the best way when I said I ain’t s—t without you. This is for y’all, y’all as in my fans, those in the crowd, my supporters, those that work for me, those that work with me, those that work around me, those that work like me. This is for us.” Nas later took the stage humbly sharing, “I didn’t get into it [rap] for awards; we got into it because we love the art form.” The Queens native reflected on the genre’s journey and accomplishments over the last five decades.

4. Olamide’s ‘Unruly’ album sets a new record in the US

Olamide triumphs on the US Apple Music charts as his album “Unruly” ranks highest for an African rapper. The album has now set a new record in its early days of release. Unruly has soared to the top of the US Apple Music charts, solidifying Olamide’s position as a trailblazer in the global rap scene. This milestone not only reflects his exceptional talent but also highlights his remarkable journey from the streets of Lagos to international recognition.

While “Unruly” has made waves globally, it’s not the first time Olamide has achieved remarkable musical achievements. His previous albums, including “Baddest Guy Ever Liveth,” “YBNL,” and “Lagos Nawa,” have all enjoyed critical acclaim and commercial success.

5. Franck Kessie leaves Barcelona to join Roberto Firmino at Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli

Franck Kessie has left Barcelona to join Al-Ahli, the Saudi Arabian club confirmed. Having joined Barcelona only a year ago, the Ivorian made the switch after going down the pecking order in the Barcelona side following the signing of Ilkay Gundogan and former Southampton side, Oriol Romeu. The price for Kessie was stated to be €12.5 million (£11m/$14m) by both clubs in their official confirmation.

The midfielder made 43 appearances last season, but most of those were as a substitute. Kessie will join forces with the likes of Roberto Firmino, Allan Saint-Maximin, Riyad Mahrez, and Edouard Mendy who have all left the Premier League this summer to join the Saudi Pro League side.
