Panettiere’s death comes just days before what would have been her 37th birthday on August 21. Born in Palisades, New York, in 1989, she began working in entertainment as a child, appearing in commercials and television programs before establishing herself as one of Hollywood’s most recognizable young actresses.
Her career took a major turn in 2000 when she appeared in “Remember the Titans,” playing Sheryl Yoast alongside Denzel Washington. The role helped introduce her to a wider film audience and was followed by appearances in movies including “Raising Helen” and “Ice Princess.”
Her biggest breakthrough, however, came several years later.
“Heroes” and “Nashville” Defined Her Career
In 2006, Panettiere was cast as Claire Bennet on NBC’s hit science-fiction drama “Heroes.” As the seemingly ordinary cheerleader who discovers she possesses the ability to heal herself, Claire quickly became one of the series’ most recognizable characters.
Following “Heroes,” Panettiere took on another career-defining role as Juliette Barnes on ABC’s country music drama “Nashville.” Her performance as the ambitious young singer earned her multiple award nominations, including two Golden Globe nominations for supporting actress.
The role also became closely connected to her own life. Juliette’s storylines explored addiction, postpartum depression and the pressures of fame, subjects Panettiere would later discuss openly in interviews.
She left “Nashville” during its fourth season in 2015 while seeking treatment for depression, later returning to the series before it ended in 2018.

Beyond television, Hayden Panettiere movies remain an important part of her career. Her film credits included “Remember the Titans,” “Raising Helen,” “Ice Princess,” “I Love You, Beth Cooper” and “Scream 4.”
She played Kirby Reed in the 2011 horror film “Scream 4,” a role she reprised more than a decade later in “Scream VI” in 2023. Her return to the franchise represented one of her most notable appearances in the years after “Nashville.”
Panettiere also lent her voice to the video game “Until Dawn,” expanding a career that included acting across film, television and interactive entertainment.
Panettiere Opened Up About Addiction and Recovery
3 months ago Hayden Panettiere published a memoir that exposed deplorable behaviour of many, without naming anyone.
At the time she said: “There’s so much I want to do. I want to be creative. I want to get behind the camera. I want to direct. I want to produce.”

In recent years, Panettiere became increasingly candid about the struggles that accompanied her years in the spotlight. Earlier this year, she released her memoir, “This Is Me: A Reckoning,” in which she wrote about growing up as a child star and confronting postpartum depression, addiction, recovery, domestic abuse and grief.
She had previously spoken about her struggles with alcoholism and postpartum depression following the birth of her daughter, Kaya, in 2014.
In a 2022 interview with People, Panettiere revealed that she had been hospitalized with jaundice and said doctors warned her that her liver was “going to give out.”
“I didn’t know where the alcoholism was ending and the postpartum was beginning,” she said in a 2022 interview with “Good Morning America.”
Her openness about recovery became an important part of her later public life, particularly as she worked to rebuild her career and relationship with her daughter.
She Was Mother to Daughter Kaya
Panettiere shared her daughter, Kaya Klitschko, with former fiancé Wladimir Klitschko, the Ukrainian former heavyweight boxing champion. Kaya was born in 2014.
Panettiere previously discussed the difficult decision to relinquish custody of her daughter to Klitschko while she was struggling with substance misuse. In a 2022 appearance on “Red Table Talk,” she described the decision as deeply painful but said she believed it was what her daughter needed at the time.
“It was the hardest thing I could do,” she said. “But the best thing for my daughter was to make sure she was okay, take care of myself and make sure I could be a good mom to her.”

Panettiere also experienced a devastating loss in 2023 when her younger brother, actor Jansen Panettiere, died at 28. His family said he died from an enlarged heart coupled with aortic valve complications.
The actress later spoke about the profound impact of his death, describing Jansen as her “other half” and saying she would always be heartbroken by his loss.
Beyond acting, Panettiere was known for her advocacy work. She supported mental health awareness, animal rights and environmental causes and became an outspoken supporter of Ukraine following Russia’s invasion. In 2022, she launched a relief effort to help provide medical supplies and protective equipment to Ukrainians.
Hayden Panettiere’s Legacy
As news of Hayden Panettiere’s death continues to spread, tributes are expected to focus on both the characters that made her famous and the personal struggles she chose to discuss publicly.
From “Heroes” and “Nashville” to the movies that introduced Hayden Panettiere to audiences as a child, her career spanned more than three decades.
Further details surrounding her death have not been released. Her family has asked for privacy as they mourn the actress, mother, daughter and sister who died at just 36.
