The ‘Good Hair’ Girls Are Making A Change With Their Sickle Cell Foundation

It’s not all glitz and glamour for the Good Hair LTD ladies, Chioma Ikokwu and Kika Osunde. Unbeknown to many, they are both heavily involved in humanitarian services. Last week, the popular entrepreneurs were at the United Nations headquarters in New York, where they were invited to speak on their sickle cell foundation, create awareness about the disease and receive an award for their commitment to the cause.

According to Kika Osunde:

“Our charity focuses on raising awareness, educating and destigmatising Sickle Cell Disease (SCD). So honoured to be given the opportunity to participate in a high-level conversation on improving the quality of care for people affected by SCD at the United Nations Head Quarters, New York. “We can do no great things, only small things with great love. #makingadifference #goodhairtotheworld.”

The ladies took to social media to share their experience at the UN as they were given the platform to have their voices heard in order to facilitate awareness and progress on sickle cell awareness.

Commenting on their award, Chioma Ikokwu had this to say:

“Super honoured to receive this Humanitarian Award from the African Sickle Cell Foundation – presented by the Permanent Mission of The Gambia to the United Nations at the UN Headquarters, New York. Thank you Thank you Thank you for this recognition.”

Speaking exclusively to Style Rave’s Chief Editor in New York, the duo revealed why they decided to commit to raising awareness on sickle cell in Nigeria, especially in the rural communities. They explained that their desire for change came as a result of being faced with a first-hand situation; a close friend who has battled with the life-long disease. But raising awareness isn’t the only thing the ladies are trying to do. According to them:

“We want to help improve access to medical care for people with sickle cell disease in Nigeria among other major plans we are working on.”

True to form, the ladies made their UN rounds in top style and we’ve got all their looks and other shots from their sessions right here.
