Floral Fantasy! AFROPUNK FEST Brooklyn Was A Whole Mood!
A passionate writer, self proclaimed chef and lover of music…
Black people are incredible and like clockwork, every year there is a reunion for young black people that takes place at the Commodore Barry Park, Brooklyn. Here, you’ll find a marvel as unique people from different backgrounds and works of life arrive at the AFROPUNK FEST looking utterly confident in their artistically edgy looks.
The festival which is a celebration of “other black experiences” started in 2005 in Brooklyn and has grown from stud-wearing punk heads to a celebration of all things “black”, arts, creativity and much more.
Now, the AFROPUNK festival is all about expressing yourself anyway you can and this year there were as expected, larger than life costumes, swarms of dramatic flowers, patterns, elaborate and colourful braid styles and a host of other fascinating beauty additions.
Throughout the festival which lasted from August 25th to 27th, there was a plethora of mainstream style as well as punk-inspired alternative rock outfits which is an ode to the essence of the festival. Black clothings, body paints and massive afros clearly brought a lot of energy to AFROPUNK FEST Brooklyn this year.
Here’s a look at some of the fiercest looks from the festival…
