V ictoria Falana, also known by her stage name, “Falana,” is a leader in the alternative music scene. The singer has just released an intensive body of work in a 7-tracked critically acclaimed EP, ‘Rising’ in collaboration with seven leading Nigerian visual artists, each of them creating a work inspired directly by a song on the new EP.
The collaboration, ‘Rising Exhibition and Installation Concert,’ is themed around women empowerment and will be launched during West Africa’s largest Art fair, Art X. It is co-curated by Falana herself, along with the Director of Centre for Contemporary Art, Lagos, Oyindamola Fakeye. The ‘Rising,’ which serves as inspiration for this project is a constellation of compelling sounds ranging from outstanding songs like ‘Sweet Adetola‘ and ‘Electric Lady’. The aforementioned summarises a woman’s multi-tasking ability to work through challenges and become a victor in the end, while the latter urges women to recognize their strength and ‘energy’, thus, celebrating the power of self-love.
The Rising Installation and Concert that launches this dynamic work of art will be held on November 4, 2021 at Gaia House with limited tickets available here. In addition, on November 9, 2021, the exhibition will move on to the luxury concept store Alara, for a week-long exhibition.
The seasoned Alte artiste plans to tour the artwork and event with stops including London, Paris and New York. Speaking on the tour, Falana said: “I am both excited and humbled to be collaborating with these amazing visual artists to create this unique experimental experience in the contemporary African Music and Artspace”.
