1. Diddy to be honored at The Apollo’s 2023 Spring Benefit

On Thursday, April 27, The Apollo announced this year’s Spring Benefit honorees, which will include its president and CEO Jonelle Procope, successful entrepreneur Sean “Diddy” Combs, NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabar, and eyewear brand Warby Parker. The annual fundraising event, which is themed “The Next Movement” this go-round, is set to take place on Monday, June 12, at the historic venue in Harlem, New York.

Combs will receive the Icon Award, Abdul-Jabbar will be awarded the Impact Award; and Warby Parker will receive the Corporate Award for Outstanding Leadership in Innovation, Diversity, and Global Community. Procope will also be honored as her 20-year venture with the organization comes to an end.

2. Isreal Adesanya announces documentary

Fans of Israel Adesanya will soon get a peek into his life in his documentary titled “Stylebender.” Written and directed by Zöe McIntosh with Fraser Brown as the producer, the feature takes the viewers into the childhood and career of the Nigerian-born, New Zealand-based MMA fighter. It will show the ups and downs of his life, touching on masculinity, bullying, mental health, fighting, and dance. “My goal was always to get under the gloss and hype to unlock the poetry, emotion, and contradictions inherent in Israel. I wanted to make a film that spoke not only to MMA fans but to a wider audience who would connect with Israel’s authenticity and the importance of being your own ‘freaky’ self,” said the writer and director.

Work on the 102-minute-long documentary started back in 2018, around the time Adesanya made his UFC debut under the tutelage of his coach Eugene Bareman. The documentary comes after his latest win a few weeks ago where he reclaimed the UFC middleweight world champion title with a second-round KO against longtime rival Alex Pereira. Adesanya’s documentary premieres on June 11, 2023.

Wealthy businesswoman Shauwn ‘Mam’Mkhize’ Mkhize is convinced people don’t know her story. That’s why she decided to put pen to paper and let readers page through her real life. The businesswoman, whose luxurious life is in full view on her socials, has had a successful reality TV show, and judging by her collection of pricey cars and big mansion, she’s done well for herself.

Mam’Mkhize said her memoir “My World, My Rules” was written in a year. “The process was never easy because it came to a point where I had to face my fears that I had and deal with them, try to send them to the reader in a way that she understood and will be able to understand and put them as they are supposed to be. You know confronting some of your fears it’s not an easy thing to do,” she said.

Kemi Adetiba is back. Following the release of her last project, “King of Boys: The Return of the King” in 2021, she returns with three new projects. The filmmaker teased her forthcoming projects online on Thursday, April 27. The three new titles are “King of Boys 3,” “To Kill A Monkey,” and “Welcome to the Fourth.” This is the first mention of the latter but Adetiba announced the third part of her blockbuster series, “King of Boys,” earlier this year. Sharing the news, the director promised fans of the series a “wild ride” with a picture of herself, Sola Sobowale, and Seun Kuti.

Adetiba introduced “To Kill A Monkey” in 2022 with the poster, announcing that the movie is headed to the big screen. “Bending to the threatening messages I’ve been receiving, I’m super excited to announce our next project and film from the KAV stables…”TO KILL A MONKEY,” she wrote on Instagram. The director added “…We’re so excited for this new journey. But most importantly, we’re most excited to share it (and our new movie-baby) with you. And with all that said and done… We look forward to seeing you all at the box-office.” Not much else is known about the production timeline, plots, or release dates for all three projects.

5. PSG deliver Neymar injury update as Brazilian returns to France to have protective boot removed

Paris Saint-Germain have delivered an injury update on Neymar, with the Brazil international forward back in France as his recovery continues. The enigmatic 31-year-old damaged his ankle during a Ligue 1 outing against Lille on February 19, forcing him to undergo surgery, and he has been stuck on the sidelines ever since. Neymar has spent time back in his homeland while recovering from his latest knock – paying a visit to former club Santos in the process – but he is edging his way back to full fitness and is ready to step up his recovery while working with PSG’s medical staff.

The reigning Ligue 1 champions have said in a statement on the club’s official website: “Neymar Jr has returned to the Training Centre, with the members of Paris Saint-Germain’s medical staff and the surgeons who operated on him proceeding with the removal of his protective boot today. After receiving reassuring results from his tests, the player will now be able to continue his rehabilitation protocol in Paris.” Questions continue to be asked of how long Neymar will be sticking around in Paris, despite having a contract through to 2025, with talk of supposed interest from the Premier League refusing to go away.
