Cardi B is definitely riding on a high right now. She was recently named the third person in history to have three songs on the Billboards Top 10 simultaneously. Shortly after that the remix of ‘Finesse’ with the 90s’ king, Bruno Mars surfaced, the internet went agog and fell in love.
The song kicks off with Cardi rapping about growing up in the Bronx and working as a dancer before her rap career took off. The NSFW video which was directed by Bruno Mars and co-directed by Florent Dechard draws inspiration from the ’90s sketch show In Living Color, created by Keenen Ivory Wayans. There’s a little bit of gender-flipping going on as Mars dances on a roof like a Fly Girl (the In Living Color dance troupe where Jennifer Lopez started her career) and Cardi B flings paint at the camera like Wayans and his fellow up-and-comer castmates did in the show’s opening credits.
