The latest Breguet marine watches bring the house’s history on the water into sharper focus, with the refreshed Marine 5517 and Marine Chronographe 5527 introducing a new guilloché pattern rooted in one of Abraham-Louis Breguet’s most important Parisian addresses. Known as the Quai de l’Horloge motif, the engraving takes its geometry from the outlines of the Île de la Cité and Île Saint-Louis while incorporating the movement of ocean waves. The result is a dial that connects Breguet’s Parisian origins with its long association with marine timekeeping.
Breguet spent the most productive years of his career at a workshop on the Quai de l’Horloge, on the Île de la Cité, where the Seine divides around the historic center of Paris. It was there that he produced the marine chronometers that ultimately earned him the title of Official Watchmaker to the French Royal Navy in 1815 under Louis XVIII. More than two centuries later, that connection remains central to the Marine collection, with the latest 5517 and 5527 using their dials to make the relationship between Breguet’s history, Paris, and the sea particularly visible.
The Quai de l’Horloge guilloché first appeared on Breguet’s anniversary Classique models in 2025, marking the house’s 250th year. Its arrival in the Marine collection extends the motif into the sportier side of the lineup, giving the 5517 and 5527 a distinctly different visual character without altering their fundamental identities. Twelve new references span three case materials, two complications, and either a rubber strap or matching metal bracelet, with prices ranging from $26,400 for the titanium 5517 on rubber to $93,900 for the gold 5527 on bracelet.
The Marine 5517: Three Hands, One Very Considered Dial
The 5517 keeps the Marine collection at its most streamlined. The 40mm case is available in white gold, rose gold, and titanium, with dimensions that stay consistent across all three materials: 47.7mm lug-to-lug and 11.5mm thick, with a screw-down crown and 100 meters of water resistance. The case itself is unchanged from previous iterations. The entire story is on the dial.
The Quai de l’Horloge guilloché is executed by hand on an 18-karat gold base, then finished with a semi-transparent colored lacquer that adds optical depth and allows the engraving to shift in the light. The white gold model receives an ice-blue lacquered dial. The rose gold version is rendered in black. The titanium model adopts a blue hue, with rose-gold-applied numerals creating a warm contrast against the cool case. All three versions move the date window to 6 o’clock, restoring symmetry to a dial where the previous off-center placement created a subtle imbalance.
A gold applique at 12 o’clock, Breguet’s signature apple hands, and a seconds hand whose tip references the nautical Bravo flag complete the maritime detail inventory. The rubber straps feature a Quai de l’Horloge surface texture that echoes the dial, connecting the watch’s most utilitarian element to its most refined one. Powering the 5517 is the self-winding Calibre 777A, running at 4Hz with a 55-hour power reserve.
The Marine Chronographe 5527: The Same Motif, More Complexity
The 5527 applies the same guilloché language to a more substantial brief. At 42.3mm with 50.7mm lug-to-lug and 13.9mm thick, it is the larger and more architecturally complex of the two new references, built around a flyback chronograph that has been reconfigured for the 2026 update. The hour counter has been removed, leaving two registers: elapsed minutes at 3 o’clock and small seconds at 9, with the date at 6. The result is a cleaner dial architecture than the previous three-register version, and the reduction in visual complexity allows the guilloché to read more clearly across the face.
The dial colorways differ from the 5517 across all three case materials. The white gold and rose gold versions receive a blue gradient lacquer finish. The titanium model adopts a gray gradient, a cooler treatment that suits the case material without defaulting to the obvious blue. The central chronograph hand bears a Bravo flag reference, the crown guard echoes the wave movement, and the gold oscillating weight, visible through the sapphire caseback, is shaped like a ship’s rudder, a detail that requires looking for specifically to appreciate fully. The Calibre 582QA powers the 5527, offering flyback chronograph function alongside a 48-hour power reserve and silicon hairspring.
What These Watches Are Actually Saying
The refinements to both models are modest in scope and precise in execution, which is consistent with how Breguet has approached its permanent collection updates in recent years. Moving the date to 6 o’clock sounds administrative. On a dial as considered as the Quai de l’Horloge guilloché, it is not. Replacing the previous numeral treatment with applied Breguet numerals sounds cosmetic. In practice, it anchors the watch more firmly within the house’s visual language. It gives the dial a legibility that the flag-inspired Roman numerals of the previous version could not quite match.
The more general point the 2026 Marine updates are making is about the guilloché itself. Hand engraving of this caliber takes considerable time and skill and is increasingly rare even at the price points these watches occupy. Breguet has been one of the few houses to maintain it as a genuine practice rather than a talking point, and the Quai de l’Horloge pattern is the most developed expression of that commitment the house has yet produced.
