1. Beyoncé announces much anticipated ‘Renaissance’ world tour

Beyoncé is taking Renaissance global, as the superstar will start her world tour in Sweden in May with stops throughout Europe and the United States. The highly anticipated tour announcement she made on Instagram and her website on Wednesday comes days before the Grammy Awards on Sunday, where the global superstar is the most nominated artiste and could make Recording Academy history.

Her 2022 album “Renaissance” is a celebration of dance music and is nominated for Album of the Year. Her tour will make stops in London, Paris, Barcelona, and Toronto before ending on September 27 in New Orleans. Ticketmaster said in a release that sales will begin February 6 and fans will need to register through their “Verified Fan” system. Sale times will vary based on the city.

Nigerian singer Simi has launched her children’s clothing line, The Big Little Company. After the birth of her daughter, Adejare “Deja” Kosoko, Simi was inspired to start a fashion company for children. The trendy, affordable line caters to kids ranging from ages one to ten so that every child can enjoy the unique pieces. They are available exclusively online.

Designed to be comfortable and stylish, the collection boasts minimalist but refreshingly unique designs. The styles are also very multifunctional. The collection includes dresses, jumpsuits, and overalls and is suitable for both girls and boys. Manufactured in Lagos, the brand features styles and details of timeless, joyous patterns and fun silhouettes. A recent statement released by the award-winning musician on the launch read: “I hope that The Big Little Company brings joy and happiness to children everywhere!”

Nickelodeon has released the list of nominees for the highly anticipated 2023 Kids’ Choice Awards (KCAs), and making his debut is radio personality Anele Mdoda’s son Alakhe. The little star has been nominated in the category of Favorite African Kidfluencers. He will go up against Lethukuthula Bhengu, Rethabile Mokgatla, Olianna and Olivia, Siba Bogopa, and DJ Arch Jnr. He took to Instagram to rally votes. In the caption, he wrote: “Guuuuys!!! I’ve been nominated for such a cool award! 😃 Thank you for the nomination @nickelodeon_africa 🙏🏽❤️ Link to vote is in my bio folks 😃.”

Set to take place on NickToons (DStv channel 308) on Wednesday, March 8, the awards will celebrate some of the biggest local and international media personalities and artistes, as voted for by the fans.

4. Lizzo debuts Madame Tussauds wax figure

Lizzo is showing off her new Madame Tussauds wax figure in a way that’s classically her. On Tuesday, January 31, the singer took to social media to provide a first look at her double. She also made sure to gush over its greatness, writing on Twitter that it was “single-handedly one of the most terrifyingly meta moments of my life.”

“Thank you @MadameTussauds-now I know what a twosome with Lizzo is like 😳,” she added, alongside a video of herself just about to kiss the statue of herself. Via TikTok, Lizzo also shared a look into the wax figure in a series of posts.

5. Tom Brady announces retirement for good

Quarterback Tom Brady is retiring from the NFL—for real this time, he said in a video posted to social media on Wednesday morning. Brady, 45, released the message on February 1, the same date he announced his retirement from the NFL in 2022. “I’m retiring. For good,” Brady said in his new farewell message. He thanked his fans and acknowledged the uproar over earlier announcements regarding his plans. “I won’t be long-winded,” Brady said. “You only get one super-emotional retirement essay, and I used mine up last year.”

Addressing his family, friends, teammates, and competitors, Brady added, “Thank you guys for allowing me to live my absolute dream. I wouldn’t change a thing.” In a superlative 23-year career with the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Brady racked up a raft of elite records. He has the most Super Bowl wins (7), as well as the most passing touchdowns (649) and passing yards (89,214).
