n In the event of a clothing fire, the experts advise to stop, drop, and roll. But what do you do when you’re engulfed in the heat emitting from Black beauties bent on proving their Hestia status? That was our plight last week as Black stars made a glamorous show on global red carpets with looks so striking they set our hearts on fire. From Los Angeles to Abuja, Pretoria to Tokyo, the stakes were indeed high but these women came winning. Ring the alarm! best red carpet makeup looks

The Looks

Makeup

Last night was culture’s biggest night and the makeup game was more than enough reason for us to abandon everything else to stay glued to our screens. While most of the looks served at the BET Awards were a total knockout, a few really stood out from the rest. For instance, Chloe Bailey was a good mix of edge and glam with her over-the-top black liner that did well to bring the drama to an otherwise subtle look. Add to that her cowry-accentuated locs and shimmering black dress and you see why the singer was easily one of our favorite moments of the night.

Meanwhile, things were steaming somewhere in Abuja as Nigerian stars converged for the premiere of Glamour Girls. The assignment was to dial up glamour and boy, the ladies sure delivered! Actress Nse Ikpe-Etim commanded a regal vibe thanks to her bold, red lipstick and neck-grazing-back-swept hair. Ikpe-Etim didn’t just look like a queen but like one determined to bring the heat everywhere she goes. Mission accomplished.

Hair

Once again, we touch base at the BET Awards in Los Angeles. This time, we take a moment to appreciate hairstylist, Kitty Wedie who did a splendid job on Akira Akbar. The hairstyle appears to be the popular center-part box braids, but Wedie struck a deal with genius with the way she styled it. While she emphasized the original parting, the braids themselves were held neatly to the back making the hairstyle resemble Fulani braids. Next, she proceeded to allow a tiny section of the hair to hang loose, caressing the side of Akbar’s face. The project is then finished off neatly with well-laid edges. Brilliantly done!
