Last Week’s Best Dressed Stars Vamped Up The Haute Tempo

Fashion is like yeast. Just as a small amount can make dough rise, a bit of extra effort can elevate a look and shape the culture. This was evident last week as style stars stepped out for various engagements spiraling out of normalcy. Skillful inputs were the fine line between freedom of creativity and overboard looks, and basic had no place in the showdown. Once New York Fashion Week kicked off, it was game over for mediocre fashion. The leathers, feathers, and metallic fetters cuffed the stars—an arrest most people approved of.

Moreover, the Harper’s Bazaar party was an activity available to spur up the creative energy.  Tracee Ellis Ross, among other stars, was present at the celebration. Ms. Ross showed out in a see-through yellow dress and heavily feathered shoes. The week’s fashion favored her usual eccentric representations and some more.

The Looks

However, balloon skirts have refused to soft pedal, and even at the Venice Film Festival, Taylor Russell put the skirt to work. She opted for a white custom Alaia set, which featured a backless crop top and bubble midi skirt. She punctuated the outfit with a diamond choker and white pumps.

Additionally, layering is the openly unguarded weapon of fall. Messy and curated were just a few expressions the stars leveraged of the cold-weather technique. Ciara stood on business with layers of brown checks and balanced every piece. She synced each pattern to complement the other. In one instance, she employed oversized high-waisted pants tucked into an abundance of sister print tops and a matching coat to seal the deal. In another appearance at a business event, she stuck to prints, but in gray. The singer was fiercely androgynous in a loose-fitting turtleneck patterned top styled with matching oversized pants and completed with black dress shoes that seemed like they were taken from her husband, Russell’s closet. Ciara looked fresh out of a Bond movie, but not as the Bond girl.

Last week, Angela Bassett won her first Emmy award. Also, sequins are good partners when celebrating wins, and the star employed the shimmering texture to dazzle as she received her much-deserved recognition. Also, the multi-toned Naeem Khan dress featured subdued tints, which allowed the sequins to shimmer without the uncouth loudness of a disco. Ms. Bassett remains a queen whose work speaks, and so does her charisma and style.

Again, leather jackets, skirts, and boots were overtly present in large quantum last week. Leather in all colors and pairings was the choicest fabric both for NYFW and edgy Instagram appearances. From Chloe Bailey, who strutted hard in leather thigh-high boots and a slinky mini dress, to top influencer Jalisa Evaughn in her leather element at the NYFW 2024, the offerings were hard to miss. In addition, there were black, brown, red, and an assortment of colors, all assembled in leather’s street style defense.
