Last Week, The Best Dressed Men Triumphed With Impressionable Takes

When it comes to memorable fashion, the big players know that looking good is only the bare minimum for one has to elicit a reaction, and last week, celebrities did just that. As the week came to a close with several buzz-worthy events across the globe—from the to the #AMVCAs in Lagos to the Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas, Black style stars raised the bar by opting for attention-grabbing pieces with theatrical details potent enough to evoke a double take. Award show fashion.

The Looks

Unexpected choices delighted us throughout last week. At the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA), Nigeria’s most revered movie industry award event, actor and host Adenola Adepetun gave evening wear an unusual spin in a custom Atafo formal wear. The Nigerian designer’s cropped beaded velvet, silk, and satin burgundy and a black three-piece suit was a welcome change to the usual evening wear at award shows. Its distinctive cuts are unlike anything the actor has worn before and the cuban black shoes just added a complementary finishing touch. It is no surprise he got the award for the best dressed at the event.

Over in America, basketball player Steph Curry showed us the definition of an ultra-hip casual game day fit as he arrived for the Golden State Warrior v. Memphis Grizzles game. He made his entrance in a JUNE79NYC track jacket and matching track pants from the same brand worn over a burgundy t-shirt. For footwear, he chose a pair of Marni V12 scribble-print sneakers. Clearly, the NBA star is committed to casual fashion and it was a relief to see him capture the spirit of the game season with one look. Award show fashion

Last week’s best dressed looks were an array of stunning red carpet takes and urban casual ensembles by athletes, Actors, and artists like Diddy, who changed outfits 10 times as he hosted the BBMAs. It comes as no surprise that per usual, celebrities and their stylists aimed to make a statement, and boy, did they deliver!
