2. Barack Obama wins Emmy for narrating Netflix documentary ‘Our Great National Parks’

Former President Barack Obama won the outstanding narrator Emmy Award for his work on the Netflix documentary “Our Great National Parks” Saturday night, September 3 at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards ceremony. Moments later, the streaming giant tweeted congratulations to Obama, 61, for making history as the first president to win a competitive Emmy. However, the Associated Press later noted that Obama is the second president to have an Emmy. Dwight D. Eisenhower was given a special Emmy Award in 1956 while still in office.

The docuseries is a five-part show about national parks around the world. Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama produced the series through their production company Higher Ground. Obama faced strong competition for the Emmy. The other nominees included Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (Black Patriots: Heroes Of The Civil War), David Attenborough (The Mating Game), Lupita Nyong’o (Serengeti II) and W. Kamau Bell (We Need To Talk About Cosby).

Media personality K Naomi looked breathtaking when she walked down the aisle on Saturday, September 3 to say “I do” to her husband Tshepo Phakhati. The couple hosted close family and friends for their white wedding, six months after their traditional wedding ceremony following the birth of their first child together.

K Naomi’s uncle, who is her father figure, handed over the bride. Author Khaya Dlanga, singer Nandi Madida, radio personality Ayanda MVP and media personality Thato “TT” Mbha were among the stars spotted at the event. “Waking up with a grateful heart. Thank you to everyone who made this weekend so special. The love, warmth and joy was all so beautiful. What a vibe,” K Naomi wrote on her Instagram story on Monday.

Congratulations to the media personality.

4. Kenya election 2022: Supreme Court confirms William Ruto’s victory against Raila Odinga

Kenya’s Supreme Court has ruled that William Ruto was properly elected president, dismissing several petitions seeking to annul the result of the August 9 election. His rival, Raila Odinga, and others had alleged there had been massive fraud. But in a scathing ruling, the judges said some of the petitioners had falsified evidence. Ruto garnered 50.5% of the vote in the closely fought election against 48.8% for Odinga. The 55-year-old will be sworn in as the country’s fifth president next week.

Following the ruling, Ruto said he would extend a hand of friendship to his political opponents, and praised the judiciary and the electoral commission for upholding the “will of the people.” Despite being the current deputy president, Ruto was not backed by the outgoing President, Uhuru Kenyatta, who instead campaigned for his former rival, Odinga. But Ruto said he would be speaking to both men shortly and promised that his government would look after them in retirement.

5. Pogba’s World Cup hopes slashed as France star forced to undergo surgery

Paul Pogba’s hopes of being fit in time for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar are under threat as the Juventus midfielder will undergo knee surgery. Pogba will go under the knife after his meniscus injury failed to respond to conservative treatment. The surgery, which is scheduled for this week, is expected to keep him out of action for between 40 and 60 days. France’s first World Cup fixture is on November 22 against Australia.

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri offered an update on Pogba’s fitness ahead of his team’s Champions League clash at Paris Saint-Germain. “We will get Paul Pogba back in January,” he told reporters. “Whether he plays the World Cup or not is not my problem.” Pogba’s injury makes him a major doubt for France’s World Cup campaign as Les Bleus aim to defend their trophy. Pogba has yet to feature in Serie A for the Turin giants since returning from Manchester United in the summer.
