2023 Golden Globe Nominations Announced: See Full List

On January 10, 2023, the Golden Globe Awards will return to broadcast TV for the first time since canceling their 2022 broadcast as the Hollywood Foreign Press Association underwent internal changes. Since the HFPA has broadened its membership, award trackers and pundits are ready to forgive and forget. There has been much speculation regarding the nominations for the 2023 Golden Globe Awards, which were announced on Monday, December 12.

A one-year agreement will see NBC broadcast the 2023 Golden Globe Awards ceremony. Jerrod Carmichael, an Emmy-winning comedian, actor, and director will host the ceremony. “We’re so excited to have Jerrod Carmichael host the historic 80th Golden Globe Awards. His comedic talents have entertained and thrilled audiences while providing thought-provoking moments that are so important in the times we live,” Helen Hoehne, president of the HFPA, said in a statement last week when Carmichael was announced as host. “Jerrod is the special kind of talent this show calls for to kick off the awards season.”

This year, the HFPA welcomed 103 new voters, making it the first time that voters from countries other than the United States were included in the voting pool. The voting body for the Golden Globe Awards is now made up of 62 different countries, with 52 percent of women and 51.5 percent of people of different racial and cultural backgrounds. The revelation that the HFPA had no Black journalists among its 87 members in 2021 prompted attention to diversity and inclusion.

On Monday, Mayan Lopez and Selenis Leyva, two of the stars from “Lopez vs. Lopez,” revealed the nominations for the 2023 Golden Globes. As has come to be expected from this particular awards show, the Golden Globe chose some unusual nominees, with the non-mainstream movie “The Banshees of Inisherin” leading the nomination pack.

On the TV side, “Abbott Elementary” led with five nominations, including Best Series, Musical, or Comedy, and nods for its stars Quinta Brunson, Janelle James, and Tyler James Williams. Notably, there were no women nominated in the Best Director category, leading to much backlash online.

Though Mayan Lopez and Selenis Leyva displayed cheery energy, the overall excitement for the Hollywood award show has been less-than, even among several of the nominees. Brendan Fraser, who was nominated for Best Actor in a Motion Picture (Drama), has said he won’t attend the Globes after he claimed he was groped in 2003 by Philip Berk, a former HFPA member and ex-president of the organization. Many other stars and studios said they would boycott the show. Legendary actor Tom Cruise even returned his three Golden Globes. 2023 Golden Globe Nominations
