We are deep into the second half of 2019 and that only means the year is almost at its end. 2020 is right around the corner and there’s an exciting mixture of blockbusters and prestige awards movies to be released which are making us that much more eager to welcome the new year.

With only a few months remaining in this year, now is a good time to look ahead to 2020, the only year since 2014 to not have a new Star Wars movie release. Thanks to an exciting roster of upcoming movies in 2020, including a new James Bond movie, two new movies from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (Black Widow and The Eternals), a third part of everyone’s favorite horror flick (The Conjuring), Wonder Woman 1984 and many more, 2020 is still going to be an exciting year for film enthusiasts in the absence of Star Wars.

Put simply, the year 2020 is going to be epic! For this reason, we’ve put together a list of movies we can’t wait to see.

Listed by release date, these are the 7 movies we can’t wait to see in 2020…

1. Birds of prey

The last time we saw Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, she was causing trouble with Jared Leto’s Joker character on Suicide Squad. What happens when she joins Birds of Prey, DC’s all-ladies team of adventurers? Unadulterated mayhem and utter destruction. Joining her in her adventure will be Jurnee Smollett-Bell and Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who were cast as Black Canary and Huntress, respectively, in September, and Rosie Perez, playing Renee Montoya. They will face off against Ewan McGregor as the Black Mask.

Release date: February 7

2. Godzilla vs. Kong

Director Adam Wingard helms this climactic entry in Warner Bros.’ MonsterVerse series, which continued in 2019 with Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Who will win when the giant ape takes on the king?

Release date: March 13

3. Mulan

Mulan comes following Disney’s live-action remake trend. The movie is directed by Niki Caro of Whale Rider and North Country fame and features Chinese star Liu Yifei as the titular character and a long list of other Chinese legends like Donnie Yen, Gong Li, and Jet Li. If the movie is anything like the cartoon, it is definitely going to conquer the box office and our hearts.

Release date: March 27

4. No time to die

Daniel Craig is returning for his fifth and final act as 007 in this Cary Fukunaga blockbuster. He’s joined by series regulars Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Rory Kinnear, and Ben Whishaw, as well as returning characters played by Lea Seydoux and Jeffrey Wright. Recent Best Actor winner Rami Malek is reported to play the villain.

Release date: April 8

5. Black Widow

Kicking off the Marvel Phase 4 line up is going to be this prequel focusing on Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff character and her origin story. We don’t quite know what the story surrounding the character will be, but we do know that she’ll be joined by David Harbour, Rachel Weisz, and rising star Florence Pugh, among others.

Release date: May 1

6. Wonder Woman 1984

Gal Gadot is returning to her Amazon-princess role to battle Bridemaids’ Kristen Wiig as the villain Cheetah. The action is set during the Cold War in the ’80s and finds Chris Pine reappearing as Wonder Woman’s love interest Steve Trevor, despite his apparent death in the first film. This is one movie release I am definitely looking forward to in 2020.

Release date: June 5

7. Jungle Cruise

This movie is based on Disney’s theme park of the same name. Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt star in this action-adventure as a riverboat captain and a scientist, respectively, on a hunt for a magical cure for depression. Comedian Jack Whitehall also joins in the fun, playing Blunt’s character’s brother.
