Every pro football player has their own game-day ritual. Many listen to a choice of playlists. Some tape their shoes just so. Others pray or meditate. Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce—who reportedly has a net worth of $40 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth—does something else. Before his cleats touch grass on a game day, before he even laces them up, Kelce said he takes at least three hours to pick out an outfit for walking into the locker room.

“I kind of just do it off of instinct,” said Kelce of how he actually picks out those clothes during an interview on Monday. The “closet” in Kelce’s house is actually a converted bedroom. He speculated it holds upwards of 300 sneakers alone. An avowed “impulse shopper,” Kelce said at nearly all idle moments—watching football on TV, eating dinner—he’s scrolling sites like Farfetch and Ssense for new gear.

Outside the walls of his jumbo walk-in, Kelce’s life is especially hectic at this moment. His Kansas City Chiefs are first in their division, charging toward what looks like yet another playoff run. Widely considered to be one of the best tight ends of all time, Kelce is once again leading his team in receiving yards.

And oh, yeah, there’s also that whole thing where he is allegedly dating Taylor Swift—a relationship that the pair seemed to confirm this past weekend by walking hand-in-hand into Nobu in New York in view of paparazzi. Kelce wasn’t open to discussing his rumored romance.

Here are a few things Travis Kelce revealed to WSJ. Magazine…

Kelce on the crunchtime rush before he’s due to report at a stadium:

It really just goes down to the wire. I kind of enjoy the creative process of the panic to just throw something together.

Kelce on his fashion choices:

Obviously, not every look is for everybody. I’m not going to be offended if somebody says I look like a clown if I got a fun hat on and some wacky jeans. It is what it is, I’m gonna have fun with it. For the most part, I do it to put a smile on somebody’s face.

Kelce on his 2016 one-season-and-done E! Network dating show “Catching Kelce,”:

He scrubbed up in skinny jeans and a white bomber jacket. Kelce said he tries to leave that reality-TV blip—and its fashion choices—in the past. “I don’t really look back on the ‘Catching Kelce’ era,”

Kelce on how he evolved from basic dapper bro to a personal shopper’s dream:

Money. “Money gave me access to certain designers and just certain fabrics that I absolutely love now.” The Kelce of 2023 isn’t allergic to flexing. For that SNL cameo last weekend (and later while out with Swift), he was wearing a Jil Sander jacket that retails for around $4,000.

Kelce on blowing part of his first-year salary on a pair of size 13 Nike Air Mag sneakers:

He still owns the self-lacing shoes aping the futuristic kicks Marty McFly wore in “Back to the Future” though they’re a size too small. “Earlier on in my career, when they didn’t have all these sneaker apps, it was whatever size I could get in the shoe that I wanted.”

Kelce on being shy about shouting out specific designers:

“I’m a politician,” he said, “I’m going to feel bad if I miss a friend.” But he said, he likes supporting up-and-coming designers.

Colm Dillane, the founder of KidSuper, a relatively niche New York-based label that Kelce has worn for several years on Kelce:

“He’s an NFL player with a crazy salary so he can wear all the top brands, but then it’s really cool that he’s, like, genuinely on the internet searching for different brands.”

There’s no stylist to go through, no secret route to getting Kelce into an item of clothing. The man, like the rest of us non-pro-athlete plebeians, does his online shopping himself. “We look in our Shopify and it’s like ‘Travis Kelce,’” said Dillane. “He’s got his ear to the ground.” Travis Kelce Net Worth

“He’s literally the most in-demand man on earth right now.”
