The Paris Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2020 season, which took off on Monday, is in full swing and Nigerian ready-to-wear eponymous fashion brand, Kenneth Ize brought colourful threads to the runway as he made his PFW debut on Monday.
For his Paris Fashion Week 2020 debut, Kenneth Ize who considers Naomi Campbell his fairy godmother as she has been a part of his growth, brought a new lease on life to the vibrant colours and rich textures of the Aso Oke fabric. The collection which features workwear-inspired designs and androgynous pieces also featured fringed bucket bags and clutches made in collaboration with Austrian accessories label Sagan.
In an interview with Vogue, Kenneth Ize, who is also a 2019 LVMH Prize finalist had this to say:
“I tried to reflect back to the time when my family and I were in Africa and how things changed all of a sudden when we moved to Europe. My mother stopped wearing African outfits every day, only wearing them on Sundays. On Mondays, she would go to work in corporate clothing and be a completely different person. She was always so looking forward to Sundays because it was the only time she could really express where she was from and her culture.”
Using a line up that included some of the most popular African and black models including Imaan Hammam, Alton Mason, Mayowa Nicholas, Adwoa Aboah and Ugbad Abdi, the Austrian-Nigerian designer tapped supermodel Naomi Campbell to close the show in a fringed trench dress that’s sure to fly off the shelves.
