Also known as Irish moss, sea moss is a type of red algae that grows on the Atlantic coastlines of the Caribbean Islands, North America and Europe. It contains a whole lot of beneficial vitamins, antioxidants and nutrients that even during the famine, the Irish consumed it alone to stay healthy. It is also popularly used in Jamaica as part of sugary beverages.

Even when used topically (as a mask), the protein content found in sea moss smoothens the skin. It synthesizes collagen which improves cell growth and is great for skin and hair. A number of studies have found that citrulline–arginine, a compound found in sea moss, helps improve cell growth and metabolism.
This compound also releases amino acids which are essential for protein and collagen synthesis. Collagen is the protein that maintains smooth skin and silky hair. Sea moss is also effective at treating skin conditions like eczema and dermatitis.
#5. Mood booster
The brain plays a key role in the emotional health of an individual and this superfood contains magnesium and potassium, which improve our mood by reducing fussiness.
