1. Rema’s “Calm Down” remix surpasses 1 billion YouTube streams

Afrobeats star Rema has hit a groundbreaking milestone with his hit song “Calm Down” remix, featuring pop icon Selena Gomez, crossing 1 billion views on YouTube. This achievement, reached on November 9, makes the remix the most-viewed Nigerian song on the platform and a historic moment for the Afrobeats genre. Premiered just over two years ago on September 7, 2022, the track has taken the world by storm, showcasing the global appeal of Afrobeats and marking a pivotal moment for Nigerian music.

The success of “Calm Down” spans multiple platforms, with the track also becoming the first Nigerian song to reach 1 billion streams on Spotify. In the United States, it set a record as the first Nigerian song to hit a billion streams, peaking at No. 3 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and maintaining a year-long presence on the chart. The song’s popularity helped Rema win the 2023 MTV Video Music Award (VMA) for Best Afrobeats and earn a 7X platinum RIAA certification, marking it as one of the most certified songs by a Nigerian artist. With chart-topping performances worldwide and headlining concerts in India and the Middle East, Rema’s “Calm Down” remix has cemented his place as a leading force in global music.

2. Ciara hints at baby No. 5

Ciara is keeping the possibility of baby number five on the table, despite an already bustling household. At the 2024 Baby2Baby Gala in Beverly Hills on Saturday, November 9, the singer and mother of four gave a glimpse into her life as a busy mom and shared her thoughts on expanding her family with her husband, NFL star Russell Wilson. Speaking to the media, Ciara laughed about the organized chaos of managing four kids, saying, “Oh my gosh, it is turned up. I have a kid on every corner. Oh my Lord, pray for me sometimes.”

But even amid the whirlwind, the singer isn’t closing the door on another child. With Russell playfully hinting at the idea of “Cinco,” or baby number five, Ciara admitted that a fifth baby might be in their future—though she’s not rushing it. “Russ keeps walking around going like this, like, ‘Cinco.’ And I’m like, ‘High five, I love you too,'” she joked. “I mean, listen, I think we’ll make it to five, but this mom needs a little time. Just a little bit.” In October, Russell made his hopes public, commenting on one of Ciara’s Instagram posts, “I’m ready when you are. We can call him Cinco.” Fans will have to wait to see if “Cinco” becomes a reality.

3. South Africa: Buntu Petse and Ntombee Ngcobo Mzolo are pregnant!

Actress Buntu Petse and her partner, Londa Mavundla, are celebrating a new chapter as they revealed they’re expecting their first child together. The announcement came in style at the recent National Film and TV Awards, where Buntu proudly displayed her baby bump in a sleek black outfit that highlighted her glowing form. She shared her excitement on Instagram, captioning a photo from the red carpet, “Me and my boys are red carpet ready,” sparking an outpouring of congratulatory messages from fans and fellow celebrities alike.

Media personality Ntombee Ngcobo Mzolo also shared her joyful news, announcing her pregnancy on social media. In a heartfelt post featuring her husband, Ntombee expressed gratitude for his unwavering support, writing, “Your selflessness and love mean the world to me, my ninja. Thank you for always being there when I need you. I love you over necessary.” Fans took to her timeline to share their excitement and well-wishes, celebrating both women as they prepare for the arrival of their little ones.

4. Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song” now the longest-running No. 1 hit this decade

Shaboozey’s breakout single “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” has officially become the longest-running No. 1 hit of the decade, marking its seventeenth week atop the Billboard Hot 100, Billboard reported on Monday. This achievement makes “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” the second-longest No. 1 hit in the chart’s history, surpassing records previously held by Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night,” Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito,” and Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’sOne Sweet Day,” each of which held the top spot for 16 weeks. Shaboozey, a rising star in the country music scene, now stands just two weeks away from potentially tying the all-time record set by “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, which led the Hot 100 for 19 weeks in 2019.

In addition to its reign on the Hot 100, “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” has dominated the Hot Country Songs chart for 21 weeks, becoming one of only eight tracks to hold that position for so long. The song’s popularity is buoyed by strong radio airplay, where it ranks No. 1, with streaming and sales figures also keeping it within the top five. Shaboozey’s achievement follows his recent Grammy nominations for Song of the Year, Best Country Song, and Best Country Solo Performance, adding momentum to his career as he contends for Best New Artist.

5. Barcelona confirms extent of “severe” Lamine Yamal’s ankle injury

Barcelona confirmed on Monday that their teenage sensation Lamine Yamal has suffered a grade 1 high ankle sprain, ruling him out for the next two to three weeks. The winger sustained the injury during last week’s Champions League match against Crvena Zvezda, and his absence was felt in Barcelona’s recent 1-0 La Liga defeat to Real Sociedad. Manager Hansi Flick, already concerned about the impact of Yamal’s absence, voiced hopes that the young star would also avoid international duty with Spain in the upcoming Nations League matches to prioritize recovery.

Barcelona’s medical report also revealed that forward Robert Lewandowski picked up a lower back injury during the Real Sociedad clash, which will keep him sidelined for about 10 days. While Lewandowski may be fit to return against Celta Vigo after the international break, Yamal’s injury will likely keep him out until early December. These setbacks compound injury concerns for the Catalan giants as they continue their campaign, hoping to reclaim momentum in La Liga.
