he Oscars weekend is one of the most anticipated Hollywood annual affairs. While the style draws in fashion enthusiasts, it’s also fulfilling to witness the hard work of your favorite actors being crowned. The diversity creates a unique and captivating atmosphere, but the red carpet and party outfits are the highlights of this event.
At the Oscars, you can expect to see some of the most dazzling and glamorous outfits decorated across the not-so-red carpet. From stunning ball gowns to chic suits, the stars know to bring their sartorial A-game. Designers often use this platform to showcase their latest collections, which makes it even more appealing for fashion lovers. However, the alluring sheer clothing was prevalent at this year’s Oscars. We saw lots of hits and misses, but one thing was sure—sheer is the moment.
While this trend may not be appropriate for every occasion, there’s no denying that the Oscars was its playground. To avoid being static, growing includes taking risks with your fashion choices, and sheer clothing was THAT girl at this year’s Oscars. Celebrities embodied this trend in fascinating ways, proving that regardless of your reservations, one can rock this trend with so much grace and ritz.
The Looks
Sabrina Elba exuded sheer elegance in a Nicolas Jebran floor-length silver number. The bejeweled sheer dress married her silhouette and birthed charming in all its translations. The number featured intricate designs that glittered and shone as she moved. It was as if she had been born to wear this dress, and every movement she made was a dance of sheer grace. That’s how you wear a sheer dress. In with the poise, out with the tacky.
One thing about a good color is its ability to utilize its innate properties in an outstanding way. The ever-gracious Hollywood actress Angela Bassett rocked a Moschino dress and we couldn’t get enough of the look. The regal purple take was a sheer mermaid-style masterpiece, complete with a long train and a slightly deep neckline. The bow-like design added a touch of elegance that made her shine like the star that she is.
Meanwhile, South African actress Thuso Mbedu aced the sheer game with her show-stopping Dior Couture masterpiece. The black sheer woven-cage detailing and mock neckline perfectly contrasted the flowy striped white and black gown cascading from her waist. Thuso’s look is the epitome of elegance with an edge — she wasn’t just making an entrance, she was making a statement.
And about statements, the Essence crooner, Tems had the world talking about her flamboyant Lever Couture dress. While some were mesmerized, there were concerns about her blocking the view of other attendees seated behind her. Irrespective of varying concerns, everyone agreed that Tems ate and left no crumbs.
