John Boyega has resigned as the global ambassador for perfume brand Jo Malone after he was replaced in an ad he made for them by a Chinese actor. The Star Wars actor made the personal video in his home city of London, but it was re-shot for the Chinese market. The company apologized for what it described as a “misstep” that caused “offence.”
However, Boyega has said Jo Malone was “wrong” to have used another actor “without my consent or prior notice.” Writing on Twitter, the British-Nigerian star said while he accepted that companies would use different representatives around the world, “dismissively trading out one’s culture this way is not something I can condone.”

Two-time US Open women’s singles champion, Naomi Osaka, and her celebratory postgame outfit including a head wrap would put anyone in a winning mood. On the day following her final match, Naomi Osaka posed with the iconic silver trophy in an orange patterned dress and a colorful head wrap. “You already know I had to bring out the headwrap for this one,” she tweeted on Sunday, alongside a picture from the photoshoot.
Naomi’s look was praised on social media by people who appreciated her praising her Japanese-Haitian heritage. Earlier in the day, she tweeted, “I would like to thank my ancestors because every time I remember their blood runs through my veins I am reminded that I cannot lose.”
2. Nollywood actor, Kanayo O. Kanayo now a lawyer
Veteran Nollywood actor, Kanayo O. Kanayo has achieved his dream as he officially becomes a lawyer. This comes after he completed Law School in July 2020.
Kanayo O. Kanayo took to his Instagram to announce the news by saying; “To God be all the Glory. You can now address me as Anayo Modestus Onyekwere, Esq, MFR ( Barrister And Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria).”
The legendary actor has proven to his fans that it is never too late to achieve your dreams in life only if you still have what it takes.
3. Monday, September 21 is the Nkrumah memorial holiday in Ghana
The Ministry of Interior has reminded the public that Monday, September 21, 2020, is a public holiday marking Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day. The general public is hereby reminded that it is a Statutory Public Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country, a press statement issued by the Ministry of Interior and signed by the Minister, Mr. Ambrose Dery said.
The general public is advised to observe the safety protocols associated with the novel coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19), especially in relation to social events at public places, the statement added. The Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day is a day set aside to remember and honor Ghana’s first President.
4. Andrew Gillum comes out as bisexual as he discusses the Miami hotel incident
Andrew Gillum, whose political career was marred by the scandal which involved him being found inebriated in a hotel room in March, has shared in an exclusive Monday interview with Tamron Hall that he is bisexual. The former Florida gubernatorial candidate made the statement about his sexual orientation while speaking with Hall about his political career and battle with alcoholism.
“You didn’t ask the question, you put it out there of whether I identify as gay. The answer is I don’t identify as gay, but I do identify as bisexual,” he said in the interview. “And that is something that I’ve never shared publicly before.”
The former Tallahassee mayor is a father of three and married to his wife R. Jai Gillum. He was the youngest Black person elected to office in Florida at age 23, and since then, has been considered one of the rising stars of the Democratic Party.
5. Lionel Messi at the top of Forbes money list in 2020, Cristiano Ronaldo second
Barcelona forward Lionel Messi has topped the Forbes list for highest-earning footballers in 2020. Forbes estimated Messi’s yearly earnings at $126m (£97.2m) with Juventus’ Cristiano Ronaldo second on $117m (£90.3m). Neymar was in third with Paris St-Germain team-mate Kylian Mbappe fourth.
Three Premier League players – Mohamed Salah, Paul Pogba, and David de Gea – made the top 10, as did Real Madrid and Wales forward Gareth Bale. The top three were in the same order as in 2019, although Mbappe rose three places from seventh to fourth.
