1. Megan Thee Stallion hints at WWE debut after scoring new ‘Smackdown’ theme song

Megan Thee Stallion might be taking her talents from the recording booth to the WWE ring. On Friday, September 13, SmackDown returned to USA Network with a new look, unveiling a revamped logo and an electrifying intro featuring Megan’s latest track “Neva Play,” which includes a collaboration with RM from BTS. After WWE shared the new opening on social media, Megan fueled speculation about her possible in-ring appearance by dropping fire emojis and playfully teasing fans, writing, “I think it’s finally time I make my debut lol.”

Megan’s relationship with WWE has been brewing for a while. In 2021, she was spotted posing with WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion Bianca Belair at Lollapalooza. More recently, in May 2023, former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez publicly challenged Megan and Cardi B to a tag team match. Morgan even hinted at a potential showdown, saying, “They look like they could take the titles… Let’s do all of it.” With Megan now tied to SmackDown through her theme song, fans are eagerly waiting to see if the Houston rapper will make her much-anticipated WWE debut.

2. Rema, Omah Lay, and Shallipopi feature on the EA FC25 official soundtrack playlist

Nigerian Afrobeats stars Rema, Omah Lay, and Shallipopi have secured spots on the official soundtrack of EA Sports’ highly anticipated football game, EAFC25. The trio joins an impressive lineup of global artists for the game, which is set to release on September 27. With 114 tracks making up the soundtrack, the inclusion of these Nigerian talents highlights the growing influence of Afrobeats on the global stage. They follow in the footsteps of previous Nigerian acts like Olamide, Davido, and BNXN, who have all had their music featured in the iconic football gaming franchise.

This year’s soundtrack reflects EA Sports’ ongoing commitment to spotlighting diverse music genres from around the world, with Afrobeats playing a prominent role. Fans are buzzing on social media, eager to hear the tracks from Rema, Omah Lay, and Shallipopi while playing the game. In addition to the Nigerian stars, the soundtrack also features a wide array of artists, including South African singer Moonchild Sanelly, Colombian group Kombilesa Mi, and international stars like Billie Eilish, Charli XCX, and Coldplay, cementing EAFC25’s reputation for blending gaming with the latest global music trends.

3. Cardi B defends Tyla against “entitled African” label

Cardi B has come to the defense of South African singer Tyla after she was criticized online and labeled an “entitled African.” Tyla faced backlash for asking fellow artist Lil Nas X to hold her Video Music Award (VMA) during her acceptance speech, prompting internet trolls to accuse her of being uppity. In response, Cardi B hosted a discussion on X (formerly Twitter), titled “Cardi B’s space,” where she condemned the negative reactions, calling out those responsible as bullies. She noted that people are quick to twist innocent actions and remarks, creating unnecessary drama around what she described as a harmless request.

During the conversation, Cardi B pointed out the absurdity of the situation, emphasizing that Tyla had simply asked Lil Nas X, not anyone else, to help her with the heavy award, comparing it to holding a “10-pound baby.” The US rapper, who recently gave birth to her third child, also highlighted the unfair scrutiny that African and Caribbean women face for their confidence, stressing that Tyla’s behavior was misinterpreted. Fans, including Tyla’s supporters known as “Tygers,” praised Cardi for standing up against the trolling, with many lauding her as the only celebrity willing to speak out on the issue.

4. Wizkid shares snippet for new song ‘Piece of My Heart’ ft. Brent Faiyaz

Afrobeats sensation Wizkid has ignited excitement among fans by sharing a snippet of his new song, “Piece of My Heart,” featuring American R&B star Brent Faiyaz. The track, taken from Wizkid’s highly anticipated sixth studio album, “Morayo,” is a feel-good blend of Afrobeats and soulful R&B. This latest release comes as a significant follow-up to his 2022 album “More Love, Less Ego,” which received mixed reviews. Fans are eager to see how Wizkid’s new direction, highlighted by high-profile collaborations and a more introspective theme, will resonate with listeners.

Morayo holds deep personal significance for Wizkid, as it is a tribute to his late mother, who passed away in 2023. The album has been teased multiple times, and the release of the “Piece of My Heart” snippet on September 17, has further heightened the anticipation. With Brent Faiyaz’s smooth vocals complementing Wizkid’s signature sound, fans are already embracing the track as a promising glimpse into the emotional and sonic depth of Morayo, which is expected to drop soon.

5. Jordan Chiles files appeal to restore Olympic bronze medal

Jordan Chiles and her legal team have filed an appeal with the Federal Supreme Court of Switzerland to restore her bronze medal in the women’s floor exercise at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Chiles initially won the bronze on August 5, after her coach, Cecile Landi, successfully appealed her score, adding 0.1 to her difficulty score and elevating her to third place. However, following a request from Romanian officials, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) invalidated the appeal, citing it was submitted four seconds late. This decision demoted Chiles to fifth place, awarding the bronze to Romania’s Ana Bărbosu.

Chiles’ legal team has argued that the CAS ruling was procedurally flawed. They claim that CAS violated Chiles’ “right to be heard” by disregarding video evidence that proved her appeal was filed on time. Additionally, they raised concerns about a conflict of interest involving Hamid G. Gharavi, the president of the CAS panel, who had represented Romania in legal matters for nearly a decade. The United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) has supported Chiles’ appeal, filing a letter backing her request to have her bronze medal reinstated.
