Monday marked Martin Luther King Day, just three days after what would have been the late activist and humanitarian’s 91st birthday. Following a year that has included a racial reckoning in America and around the world and a resurgence of the Black Lives Matter movement, celebrities decided to honor the late Dr. Martin Luther King’s inspiring legacy on the day dedicated to him by posting messages on social media.

Some stars like Russell Wilson, Michael Strahan, and more shared quotes from the noted speaker. Stevie Wonder shared a powerful, musical message to Dr. King, whom he met when he was just 14 years old, and former President Barack Obama shared a message of vigilance and community service in honor of the late leader.

2. Nigeria: Burna Boy’s ‘Destiny’ makes the playlist for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’ inauguration

On January 20, 2021, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will be sworn in as the President and Vice President of the United States of America. For the monumental event, Burna Boy’sDestiny,’ a song about the power of providence and divination is part of the 46-track playlist. The song dropped off Burna Boy’s Grammy-nominated album, African Giant.

The playlist was put together by producer and rapper DJ D-Nice and actress Issa Rae’s Raedio in partnership with the Presidential Inaugural Committee and can be found on major music streaming platforms.

3. South Africa: Somizi takes aim at journalists after being asked about divorce rumors

While most South Africans had been having fun with the sunny climate this weekend, media persona Somizi Mhlongo-Motaung had a loaded gun he used to take aim at journalists. The gun, in this case, was the star’s Instagram account which he used to place a City Press journalist and Sunday World editor on blast.

It all began when Julia Madibogo of City Press approached the “Idols SA” star. She remarked on the looming allegations that he was divorcing his husband, Mohale Motaung-Mhlongo. Responding by text to the request for remark, Somizi mentioned: “Please make my year and write the story as I will sue the living hell out of you and your publication for this crap you are asking me….get your facts right or go join Sunday World.” In addition to this, Somizi also took a swipe at an editor at Sunday World, Kabelo Khumalo.

4. Ghana: Supreme Court dismisses Mahama’s application which sought 12 answers from EC

The Supreme Court has dismissed the application by the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2020 election, which sought to ask it to grant leave for the Electoral Commission (1st respondent) to answer 12 questions regarding the declaration of the presidential election results. Former President John Dramani Mahama, had filed two legal processes at the Supreme Court but at the court’s sitting on Tuesday, the application was dismissed.

A seven-member panel of the court presided over by the Chief Justice, Kwasi Anin Yeboah dismissed the application with the view that the petitioner had not established the crucial issues of relevance.

5. Mario Mandzukic: AC Milan signs Croatia striker until end of the season

Serie A leaders AC Milan have signed Croatian Mario Mandzukic on a free transfer until the end of the season, with the option for an extra year. The former Juventus striker, 34, has been without a club since leaving Qatari club Al Duhail last summer.

He was a Champions League winner with Bayern Munich in 2013, won four Serie A titles with Juventus from 2015 and 2019, and also played for Atletico Madrid. Mandzukic scored as Croatia lost 4-2 to France in the 2018 World Cup final.
