#1. Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom welcome baby girl

Big congratulations are in order for Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom, who have welcomed their first child, a baby girl whom they have named Daisy Dove Bloom. The couple announced their daughter’s arrival via UNICEF – Katy and Orlando are Goodwill Ambassadors for the charity – sharing a black and white image showing their newborn holding her daddy’s finger while Katy Perry held on to the baby girl’s wrist.

This is Katy’s first child and Orlando’s second. The Pirates of the Caribbean star is also a dad to nine-year-old son Flynn, who he shares with ex-wife Miranda Kerr. While they did not reveal details about Daisy Dove’s arrival, the new parents confirmed they were blessed with a “peaceful” birth, adding: “But we know we’re the lucky ones and not everyone can have a birthing experience as peaceful as ours was.”

#2. Ghana: Government to award about GH₵ 80 million in scholarships for 2020/2021 academic year

The Registrar of the Ghana Scholarships Secretariat, Kingsley Agyemang, has disclosed that his outfit had budgeted about GHC 80 million to be awarded in scholarships for the 2020/2021 academic year.

This, he believes would cater to about 50,000 qualified candidates from public and private institutions across the country.

He, however, indicated that the scholarship scheme had witnessed a tremendous increase in the number of beneficiaries which he described as “progressive” within the last 3 and a half years.

#3. Boity causes a stir by calling SA men roaches

Boity doesn’t mince words on how she feels about South African men. Her comments came after the backlash Mihlali Ndamase faced after saying that she goes on dates with several guys, even being called a “loose woman.” Many women have voiced their frustration of being slut-shamed and fearing for their lives in the country due to the way women are treated by men.

The “Wuz Dat?” singer joined in, sharing her disdain for South African men. Replying to a tweet asking women to refrain from going back and forth with men trying to argue about Mihlali’s video. She said: “They DGAF. Don’t let the roaches bring you down to their level.”

Boity has since faced a backlash from men in South Africa – celebrities and non-celebrities, for her comments.

#4. Powerful Hurricane Laura slams into Louisiana and Texas as Category 4 storm

Hurricane Laura hit Louisiana and Texas as category 4

Hurricane Laura has made landfall in the US state of Louisiana, causing flash flooding and leaving hundreds of thousands of homes without power. It is one of the strongest to ever hit the US Gulf Coast, striking at category four with winds up to 150mph (240km/h).

Laura’s feared storm surge has so far reached 9ft (2.7m) in parts. It is still considered life-threatening and could spread 40 miles (65km) inland. Half a million residents have been told to leave parts of Texas and Louisiana.

#5. Paul Pogba: Manchester United midfielder tests positive for coronavirus

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has tested positive for coronavirus, says France manager Didier Deschamps. The 27-year-old will have to self-isolate for 14 days. He will miss France’s Nations League game in Sweden on Saturday, September 5, and the home game against Croatia three days later.

However, Pogba could be eligible for selection for United’s Premier League opener against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on September 19. His club said: “Everybody at United wishes Paul a speedy recovery ahead of the new season.”
