Jeremy Scott Pays A Chic And Sophisticated Ode To Jackie O With The Moschino Fall 2018 Collection At Milan Fashion Week 2018

For Moschino’s Fall 2018 collection, Jeremy Scott took inspiration from the great Jackie O and Marilyn Monroe, by revisiting them in a parallel universe where they exist as aliens. He was inspired by a conspiracy theory of his own: that Jackie Kennedy was an alien.

In a season full of ’80s-inspired collections, Moschino instead went full-on ’60s with a colourful runway that reimagined Jackie Kennedy’s signature look for 2018. He presented a series of out-of-this-world dresses and looks that combine mid-century daywear with zipper accents from the brand’s iconic biker jacket. The collection wanders away from usual Pantone colours to discover shades almost forgotten. Some looks are characterized by wide vertical stripes, others by touches of paint, while the sports-inspired outfits are declined in three different shades of brocade zig-zag lurex fabric. A foulard print, taken from the brand’s archive, is revisited with pixelated polka dots.

The skirt suits, hats, and tights weren’t the only colourful things to hit the runway though. A few of the models sported head-to-toe body paint in bright colours of neon yellow, blue, and lime green — making for an alien-like take on Jackie O’s classic style. Mayowa Nicholas, Kaia Gerber, Joan Smalls, Bella Hadid, and Gigi Hadid were amongst those who walked the show, each sporting a different rendition of Jackie Kennedy’s look.

During his show, Jeremy Scott also previewed his latest capsule collection, ‘Moschino Eyes,’ in collaboration with the Australian visual artist Ben Frost. A rich selection that ranges from t-shirts, jackets, slip-on through bags, caps, to covers for i-phone. The collection, an emblem of Scott’s irreverent style, is animated by cartoon prints and ironic graphics that evoke pop-art.

The final 15 looks of the show departed from the skirt suit look and instead, entered into evening wear territory. Featuring dazzling crystal-embellishments, silky draping, and striking colours, the pieces were a modern-day take on ’60s evening attire — all while keeping the elegant bouffant hairstyle in check.
