7 Health Tips For 2024 That Will Improve The Quality Of Your Life

an we take a moment to reflect on our health journey these past years? 2020 had us gorging on banana bread, 2021 had us attempting at-home CrossFit with a questionable form, and 2022/2023 had us see-sawing between salad smoothies and late-night pizza delivery. We’ve all been on a rollercoaster ride when it comes to keeping our health in check. Just when we feel motivated to meal prep and set new health goals, something derails our efforts and takes us back to the start.

The problem is, much of our previous “health kicks” have been just that – short bursts of unsustainable effort ending with us falling off the wagon. Hard. From restrictive diets that leave us hungry to punishing exercise regimes that exhaust rather than energize, we’re left on an ineffective rollercoaster with no end in sight. Rather than trying to do the extremes, this year, set some realistic health goals focused on balance, consistency, and lifestyle changes that stick.

#1. Eat the way you want to live

Rather than looking at healthy eating as a limitation, view nourishing foods as the fuel that powers your best life. Fill your grocery cart with colorful fruits, veggies, whole grains, plant-based proteins, and healthy fats that make you feel awesome. Meal prep a few Mason jar salads or grain bowls on Sundays so you always have grab-and-go options when crazy days strike. Treat yourself to that slice of homemade banana bread when you truly want it, rather than stress eating.

#2. Make exercise a lifestyle

Forget exhausting yourself trying to suddenly work out two hours a day in prep for swimsuit season. Instead, gradually increase your NEAT – non-exercise activity thermogenesis. Proper hydration promotes healthier skin, energy levels, and even mental clarity while decreasing inflammation.

If you must satisfy your sugary buds, get your sweet fix from nutrient-packed smoothies instead. Blend up combos like strawberries, bananas, Greek yogurt, and orange juice, or go green with spinach, mango, avocado, and almond milk. Smoothies provide antioxidants, healthy fats, and fiber lacking in your Coke zeros. Gradually replace a soda a day with a homemade smoothie, thus cutting unnecessary sugar. Quality sleep boosts focus, motivation, immunity, and emotional regulation.
