he’s embracing the changes. “I think it’s the one thing that we have in our lives that’s constant,” Bündchen said. “The only time something is fixed is when you die.”

Gisele Bündchen has been recognized the world over since she appeared on the cover of Vogue at age 18. Famous for her assertive runway walk and golden beachy waves, she has gone from Victoria’s Secret Angel to actress to entrepreneur. Her marriage to Tom Brady in 2009 made her a football fixture, too. Then, in 2022, they announced their divorce.

This month, Bündchen is publishing “Nourish: Simple Recipes to Empower Your Body and Feed Your Soul,” a cookbook for people short on time who want to eat healthy. “I’m not a chef, I’m the farthest thing from a chef,” she said. “But I’m like, how do I make things that are easy and nutritious?” Recipes include a gluten-free vegetable pizza, pesto chicken lettuce wraps, and her favorite nut and seed bread.

Bündchen was born and raised in a small town in southern Brazil before being scouted at a local mall and leaving home at 13 to pursue modeling as a career. She lives between Florida and Costa Rica with her children, Benjamin, 14, and Vivian, 11. Here, she talks about a defining career moment and the one thing she’ll never eat.

Here are a few things Gisele Bündchen revealed to WSJ. Magazine…

On what time she wakes up in the morning, and the first thing she does after waking up

“I like to go to bed at about 10 p.m. and I wake up around 5 and make sure that I have my meditation. I like to have lukewarm water with a little lemon and Celtic salt. Then I do my stretches, which I call my asana, for about 15 minutes, then 15 minutes of meditation. Then I walk my dog, feed my dog, and then my day starts.”

On her schedule, post-divorce

When my kids are with me, they have so many activities. It’s difficult to manage my schedule and their schedule. The most important thing for me every day is to put the oxygen mask on me first.

When I was young, I was like, “Oh, my God, I love little animals. I don’t want to eat meat.” I became anemic. Then I was raw, and I was freezing the whole time. I was blue, my lips were purple in the summer. For me, the whole thing about food has become, where is it coming from? How is it grown? It’s about having simple foods. I see my body as a temple. I don’t want to feel sluggish after I eat. I don’t want to have a stomachache or be constipated. My whole goal is to live the longest I can, living the best life that I can.

On the one thing she’d never eat

To me, white sugar means poison. There’s so many other ways you can sweeten your things that are delicious. Honey, maple syrup, dates.

To live in a state of gratitude is like a protection in your life. We can look at things like, why is this happening to me? I believe we are here because we all have something to learn and to evolve and to grow. When I look back, the biggest, most challenging experiences in my life were all happening for me. They showed me that I was stronger than I thought I was.

One of the big moments for me was when I arrived in São Paulo. I was 13 years old, it was the beginning of my career and I didn’t know anyone in São Paulo. I was leaving a village of 10,000. When I got there, my wallet was gone. This woman saw me crying and she gave me two quarters, and I called my dad from a payphone. He was like, “Gisele, you can come home.” At that moment, I decided I’m not going to go back home just because somebody stole my wallet.

When I finally got to [the models’ house in São Paulo that day], I felt so capable. That was the biggest first thing that happened because in the fashion career, people used to mistreat you, especially when you started. Not everyone was kind, let’s put it that way. But I got some calluses from that first experience, it gave me a lot of strength for what was to come.
