It is true when they say, ‘you are what you eat.’ According to Lewin, when you eat the correct balance of food, you feed your skin with the nutrients needed to help it stay soft, supple, healthy, radiant, and blemish-free. #1. Eat fruits and vegetables

Fruits and vegetables contain powerful antioxidants that help protect the skin from the damage caused by free radicals introduced into the body through smoking, pollution, and sunlight. Aim for at least 5 portions a day that you can incorporate into your main meals. Consume carrots, potatoes, spinach, pumpkins, among others. It’s time to make fruits and vegetables your best friend. 

#2. Include vitamin C in your meal

Vitamin C is an antioxidant needed for a strong immune system, radiant skin, and helps blemishes heal properly. They also produce collagen that strengthens the capillaries that supply the skin with blood. Foods like blackcurrants, blueberries, broccoli, guava, kiwi, oranges, papaya, and strawberries are good sources of Vitamin C.

#3. Eat foods rich in selenium

Selenium-rich foods protect against skin cancer, sun damage, age spots, and aid healthy glowing skin. Brazil nuts are rich in selenium. Mix Brazil nuts with Vitamin E-rich meals as a snack or salad sprinkle. Other sources include fish, shellfish, eggs, tomatoes, and broccoli.

#4. Include vitamin E in your diet

Vitamin E protects skin from oxidative (cell) damage. It also supports healthy skin growth, fights signs of aging, and keeps the skin hydrated and calm. Eat Vitamin E-rich foods such as almonds, avocado, and hazelnuts to achieve healthy, glowing skin.

#5. Drink lots of water

The skin needs lots of moisture to stay flexible. Experts advise drinking 6 to 8 glasses of water daily to get the glow your skin desires.

#6. Go for low carbohydrate foods

Oftentimes, snacking is our undoing! Avoid carbohydrate-rich food such as biscuits and sugary drinks that produce insulin, thus damaging collagen and accelerating wrinkles. Instead, eat plenty of beans, porridge, and other slow-releasing carbohydrates. These release sugar into the bloodstream gradually, hence providing a steady supply of energy that leaves you feeling satisfied long enough and less likely to nibble on snacks.
