Afrobeats sensation Asake has once again redefined streaming dominance with his latest album, “Lungu Boy.” Released on August 9, “Lungu Boy” made history by accumulating a staggering 5.86 million streams on its first day, surpassing Davido’s “Timeless” to claim the top spot for the biggest opening day on Spotify Nigeria. The album’s global impact was equally impressive, as it secured the record for the highest opening day streams for a Nigerian album on Spotify worldwide with a monumental 9.2 million streams.
Asake’s success extended beyond the album’s overall performance. The album’s second track, “MMS,” also claimed a record, amassing 870,577 streams on its debut day, surpassing Wizkid’s “IDK” featuring Zlatan. The momentum didn’t slow down on the second day, either. “Lungu Boy” continued its reign by garnering 3.03 million streams, securing the title of the biggest second-day stream for any album in 2024 and outperforming the opening-day figures of any other project released this year.

The once-inseparable duo of P-Square has seen a fresh eruption of their long-standing feud, as Peter Okoye has publicly put his twin brother, Paul Okoye, on blast in a scathing open letter. In the letter shared on Monday, August 12, Peter accuses Paul of consistently undermining his contributions to the group, discrediting his songwriting abilities, and attempting to sabotage his career. A major point of contention is Paul’s recent claims that he wrote and sang 99% of P-Square’s songs. Peter vehemently denied these assertions, highlighting his own songwriting credits and questioning the comparison of their solo careers to the group’s immense success.
In the letter, Peter accused Paul of marginalizing him and attempting to humiliate him in the public eye. The post comes amid renewed tension between the brothers, following their highly publicized breakup in 2017. Peter hinted at addressing the recent EFCC case involving their elder brother and former manager, Jude Okoye, suggesting further revelations may be forthcoming.

In a shocking turn of events, American gymnast Jordan Chiles has been ordered to return the bronze medal she won in the floor exercise final at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The decision comes after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruled that a challenge made by Chiles’ coach to increase her score was submitted outside the allotted time frame. Originally, Chiles had finished fifth in the floor exercise but was elevated to third place following the successful challenge.
However, the CAS determined that the appeal, which came four seconds after the one-minute deadline, was invalid. As a result, the initial scoring was reinstated, placing Romania’s Ana Barbosu in third, Sabrina Maneca-Voinea in fourth, and Chiles in fifth. The United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) has expressed disappointment with the decision and has filed an appeal, claiming that video evidence proves the challenge was submitted within the allowed time.
