1. Dr. Dre gets star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

Dr. Dre has officially received the 2,775th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. This took place on March 19 during a star-studded presentation among friends and hip-hop associates, like Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, Eminem, Jimmy Iovine, and more. The production icon took the podium after Iovine and Snoop Dogg showered him with love and appreciation for what he’s given to hip-hop.

“Growing up in Compton, I never imagined that I would one day be represented here among some of my childhood heroes,” he began. “I’ve been fortunate enough to make a living doing exactly what I love to do. How about that? Isn’t that the dream?” Dre asked the crowd. “Over the course of my career, I’ve had the privilege of finding and nurturing new talent as well as pushing the boundaries in hip-hop both in content and substance.”

The superproducer broke through as the sonic architect and co-founder of the seminal rap group N.W.A. He released his The Chronic acclaimed debut album in 1992, which reached No. 3 on the Billboard 200. Dr. Dre earned his first No. 1 atop the Billboard Hot 100 with 2Pac’s “California Love” in 1995. Billboard named Dr. Dre as the greatest rap producer of all time as the 59-year-old topped the list in the No. 1 slot in 2023.

2. Dries Van Noten to step down as creative director of namesake brand

Belgian designer Dries Van Noten, who for almost four decades dazzled the fashion world with his luscious use of colors and fabrics, said Tuesday, March 19, that he will step down as creative director of his namesake brand at the end of June.

Van Noten, 65, a master of blending the old with the new, said in a statement that the 2025 men’s spring-summer collection will be the last in his current role. He added that the women’s collection will be designed by his studio.

“I have been preparing for this moment for a while, and I feel it’s time to leave room for a new generation of talents to bring their vision to the brand,” Van Noten said. Although he will relinquish his role as creative director, Van Noten will still be involved in the fashion house.

Van Noten’s successor will be announced at a later stage, he said.

3. YouTube now requires AI disclosure for realistic content

YouTube is introducing a new tool in its Creator Studio that requires creators to inform viewers when realistic content is produced with altered or synthetic media, including generative AI. YouTube says this move comes in response to viewers demanding greater transparency regarding the authenticity of the content they consume.

The plans for this update were initially announced last November. The disclosures will be visible as labels in the expanded description or on the front of the video player. However, YouTube clarified that creators are not required to disclose content that is clearly unrealistic, animated, includes special effects, or uses generative AI for production assistance. Similarly, no disclosure is required when generative AI is used for productivity, such as generating scripts, content ideas, or automatic captions.
The new label aims to enhance transparency and build trust between creators and their audiences.

The labels will be rolled out across all YouTube surfaces and formats in the coming weeks, starting with the YouTube app, followed by desktop and TV. If creators consistently fail to disclose this information, YouTube may still add a label, especially if the altered or synthetic content could potentially mislead viewers.

4. Ethiopian bank glitch allows customers to withdraw millions

Ethiopia’s biggest commercial bank is scrambling to recoup large sums of money withdrawn by customers after a “systems glitch”. The customers discovered early on Saturday that they could take out more cash than they had in their accounts at the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE). More than $40m (£31m) was withdrawn or transferred to other banks, local media reported. It took several hours for the institution to freeze transactions.

Much of the money was withdrawn from state-owned CBE by students, bank president Abe Sano told journalists on Monday. News of the glitch spread across universities largely via messaging apps and phone calls. Long lines formed at campus ATMs, with a student in western Ethiopia telling BBC Amharic people were withdrawing money until police officers arrived on campus to stop them.

5. Messi fans to get 50% refund for no-show match in Hong Kong

Disappointed fans who hoped to watch Lionel Messi in action only for the Argentine football star to sit out the entire game in Hong Kong last month will get a 50 percent refund on tickets by May if they agree to not pursue any further legal complaints, the event’s organizer has announced.

Tatler Asia said on Monday those who bought tickets for the February 4 match between Inter Miami CF and Hong Kong League XI through official channels would receive emails the same day detailing how to claim the refund. The announcement aims to bring closure for tens of thousands of angered and frustrated Messi fans, some of whom paid as much as HK$4,880 (US$624) per ticket.

The organizer said refunds would be processed within 30 days after the deadline, adding the actual date for receiving the money could differ depending on the recipient’s bank policies.
