Famous Nigerian singer David Adeleke, aka Davido, made history on Tuesday night as the first African artiste to perform at the Professional Footballers’ Association Awards (PFA) in England. The “Unavailable” crooner’s performance came as an interlude before the biggest awards of the night were announced at the Lowry Theatre in Manchester. He took to his Twitter handle on Wednesday to relish his historic performance.
He wrote, “Thank you @PFA for the opportunity to not only attend such a prestigious event but also perform. Music and sports have always gone great together and we proved that again last night! Next stop Dubai @cocacolaarena.”

On Tuesday, August 29, the leaders of Santa Clara, CA, decided to bestow Beyoncé with the title of honorary mayor in celebration of her “Renaissance World Tour,” which made a stop in the city on Wednesday, August 30. The Bay Area location gave Taylor Swift the same honor back in July. “We are going to present Beyoncé or her representative with a key to the city,” said Mayor Lisa M. Gillmor. “It’s really a testament to what she’s done and the iconic presence that she’s had, not only with the young girls in our community, but what she does in her philanthropic activities. She gives back.”
The “Renaissance World Tour” kicked off in Stockholm back in May and traversed through Europe over the course of a few months. The excursion moved to North America almost immediately and will continue to make stops on the continent until it wraps up in October.
3. South Africa: Nadia Nakai preps for AKA tribute performance
The late rapper AKA is set to be honored with a tribute performance by his loved ones at the Galaxy 947 Joburg Day, and they are going all out to make sure they put up a good show for the Megacy. Kiernan “AKA” Forbes was shot dead outside a restaurant in Durban on February 10. The tribute band will include K.O, Khuli Chana, Yanga Chief, Thato Saul, and Da L.E.S, who shared the stage with him, and his girlfriend Nadia Nakai. Nadia took to her timeline to share behind-the-scenes footage of her preparing for the show.
The Galaxy 947 Joburg Day event occurs at Crocodile Creek Polo Club on September 2. This year, the event is again presented in partnership with Samsung Galaxy. Joburg Day has become synonymous with top-class local performances, incredible energy, and a vibrant atmosphere that unites music lovers from all walks of life.
4. Tems opens up in interview with Kendrick Lamar
Tems revealed a lot about her career in a recent interview with Kendrick Lamar. In a conversation published via Interview Magazine on Tuesday, August 29, the Grammy-winning pair discussed the pressures of attaining success and the sometimes negative elements that can come with it. “You have to remember how you felt when you started as an artist, to understand the reason you’re doing what you’re doing,” she told K Dot. “Yes, it’s to be seen, or to make a name for yourself, but beyond that, why are you doing it? Most of the time it’s because you have a story to share, a message to give.”
The Nigerian singer-songwriter also noted that self-expectations are far more important than ones put on by fans or the general public. “Trusting yourself is so key, and I’m not going to stop trusting my guts just because people can see me now,” she said. “It’s like being in a zoo. The animals don’t change their behavior just because you’re looking at them. They’re always going to be who they are. So why should I change?”

Erling Haaland has won the Men’s PFA Players’ Player of the Year award in recognition of his record-breaking season with Manchester City. The Norwegian striker has been honored by his fellow professionals after scoring an astonishing 52 goals last season to help City win the treble. Haaland collected the award at a ceremony at the Lowry Theatre in Manchester after seeing off competition from Harry Kane, who was the second top scorer in the Premier League behind the Norwegian, as well as City team-mates Kevin De Bruyne and John Stones, plus Arsenal duo Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard.
Haaland scored 36 goals in his debut Premier League season, breaking Andy Cole and Alan Shearer’s long-standing record of netting 34 times in the 1993–94 and 1994–95 campaigns, when there were 42 matches rather than 38. He was also the top scorer in the Champions League with 12 strikes, as City lifted Europe’s top prize for the first time in their history. Additionally, he helped the Cityzens win the FA Cup and become only the second side in English football to win the treble.
