1. Offset showers Cardi B with nearly half a million dollars’ worth of rare Hermès bags for her birthday

Cardi B celebrated her 31st birthday in style on Wednesday, unwrapping three new Hermès bags collectively worth close to half a million dollars from her husband, Offset, as the couple partied at West Hollywood hotspot Delilah. Offset, 31, documented his wife’s bash on his Instagram Stories, filming as the “WAP” singer, clad in a plunging red lace gown, was presented with a stack of three of the French fashion house’s signature orange boxes. Cardi B squealed as she opened the first, which contained a hot pink Crocodile Kelly bag; a similar style recently sold for close to $92,000 on 1stdibs.

As she shimmed to the strains of Madonna’s “Vogue,” Cardi unboxed an extremely rare Faubourg Birkin—often called the “House Birkin,” as it’s modeled after Hermès’ Paris storefront on the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré. Offset suggested she “take a shot” before opening her last box, which housed a glossy gold-colored crocodile Birkin. A similar version sold at a Christie’s auction in 2020 for $72,000, bringing the total value of Cardi’s birthday gifts to approximately $462,975.

2. Burna Boy’s X account taken from him by management

Afrobeats singer Burna Boy has revealed why his management did not grant him access to his X account. The singer explained that his management team restricts his access to X to protect him from the constant harsh environment of the platform, as he has zero tolerance for disrespect. Speaking on Kiss Fresh FM, Burna said things would get quite intense if he were to have control of his account.

In a now-trending video, the African Giant said: “If I had access to my account, everywhere would be shaking every day. The ground will be elevated based on my feelings and I don’t like disrespect. They always try to disrespect me on the internet. So, my team don’t let me at them. If not, then the ground will elevate. I will spend too much time there; honestly, I will spend a lot of time there.”

3. Grammy award-winning artist PJ Morton is enjoying his time in South Africa

Grammy-award-winning singer and songwriter PJ Morton is currently in South Africa, much to the pleasure of his fans. This Friday, the Maroon 5 keyboardist will be performing at Emperors Palace; he has already performed in Cape Town at the old Biscuit Mill. His trip to Africa has been long overdue. Morton initially meant to come in 2020 for shows such as the Cape Town International Jazz Festival, but COVID happened and threw a spanner in his plans. For his shows, Morton is bringing an experience to his fans, describing it as a “black soul music show.”

4. Kendrick Lamar sets historic milestone after four wins at the 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards

Kendrick Lamar dominated the 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards, clinching four top categories: Hip Hop Artist of the Year, Best Live Performer, Lyricist of the Year, and Video Director of the Year alongside Dave Free. The ceremony was taped at Atlanta’s Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center and aired on Tuesday, October 10.

The Compton rapper became the first musician to secure Hip-Hop Artist of the Year three times. Additionally, his victory in the Best Live Performer category brought him level with Kanye West and JAY-Z, each with four wins. Lamar also extended his reign in Lyricist of the Year with a ninth trophy, while his collaboration with Dave Free made them the first directors to win back-to-back since Hype Williams in 2009 through 2012.

5. Arrest warrant out for former Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge

An arrest warrant has been issued for former England striker Daniel Sturridge after his failure to appear in a Los Angeles court. The case is regarding a monetary dispute with an individual who claims to have played a pivotal role in reuniting Sturridge with his stolen pet dog. The 34-year-old ex-footballer publicly offered a reward for the safe return of his cherished Pomeranian in July 2019. Foster Washington, an American rapper known as Killa Fame, claimed to have reunited Sturridge with his canine companion, but disputes arose when the promised reward was not delivered, leading Washington to file a civil lawsuit against the athlete.

In December 2021, a Los Angeles court issued a default judgment mandating Sturridge to pay Washington $30,000 (£24,400). Sturridge had been called back to court in the previous month for a ‘debtor’s exam’ to address questions regarding his financial situation. However, the footballer did not attend, and court documents disclosed reveal that he has been served with a bench warrant—a summons for his arrest and appearance in court.
