Last Week, The Best Beauty Looks Pointed To Rich Traditions And Heritage

I

n recent times, there’s been an unapologetic embrace of the African culture in all it’s glory. From fashion to cuisine, beauty to movies, the rise of all things Africa as a source of inspiration is truly humbling. Although some may say we have Hollywood and mainstream media to thank for this, I beg to differ. This is because while the aforementioned were still portraying the motherland in a not-so-favorable light, people of African descent shamelessly embraced her. Thus, it was only a matter of time before the rest caught up. Well, they now have. Black women beauty inspiration.

Speaking of embracing Africa, this rang true last week as Black women looked to the Black continent as a source of inspiration. Whether it was with their hair or makeup, traces of the culture were spotted across all boards. In addition, these women wore their looks proudly and exuded an aura of regality.

The Looks

American rapper, Neelam Hakeem looked every inch divine in a subtle facebeat she posted on Instagram. Glides of gold-toned shadow graced her eyelids and black kajal her waterline. Sticking to the soft theme, the 31-year-old opted for a matte nude lipstick that complemented her skin, while her lightly-filled brows looked accurately natural. I personally love how well the makeup matched her nail polish which proves Neelam’s attention to detail.

Hair

Whoever said shaved hair wasn’t lady-appropriate certainly didn’t see legendary singer, Toni Braxton and beauty queen, Shudufhadzo Musiḓa. The duo are proudly wearing their manes low, like really low, and I am loving every moment of it. Surely, if shaved hair can look this good, I have no need for hair myself! But then comes Paola Mathé giving off Patra vibes in faux locs and it’s difficult to decide which to choose — shaved or locs?

Check out the stunning beauty looks as seen on Black women last week…
