Last Week The Best Dressed Stars Played The Fashion Game On New Grounds

O

ne of the hallmarks of great personal style is looking good “just because.” Being able to dress up even when the entirety of your being would rather not emanates from an innate dedication to presenting your best self no matter what the world throws at you. Last week, there was the anticipated #Coachella, music tours, road trips, and product launches which arrested the presence of our favorite style stars. And with great events come great sartorial responsibility. Black celebs and top fashion influencers took on that responsibility with pride as they set the tone in chic get-ups that portrayed an unwavering appetite for style.

While the lineup of events was one way that style stars chose to show off, others decided to tease with some photos for the gram. Whichever side of the spectrum they found themselves on, it was clear they never considered relegating looking fabulous to the background. The stars offer a reminder to always wake up with this attitude; “another day, another opportunity to slay.” Whether you’re headed to a major event or running errands, looking good should be a habit.

The Looks

She’s Black. She’s beautiful. She’s Jodie Turner-Smith! The Black Barbie made an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show in a natty Christopher John Rogers black cutout dress. It’s the way the fashion risk-taker constantly switches up her look from head to toe that gets us every time. One minute she’s rocking a blonde pixie and the next, she’s all curls and ‘fro. Perhaps it’s time we Encyclopedia-switch the word stylish for Turner-Smith. Eg; The lady looked absolutely “Turner-Smith” in that ensemble. (I’ve got jokes).

Kerry Washington must have set last week aside on her calendar for serial slaying. From denim frocks to preppy street fashion, the actress left no survivors. Her schoolgirl Thom Browne’s look brought the right style to our timelines. The cropped, button-down shirt, pleated midi skirt, sleek pumps, stylish stockings, structured mini bag, and knowing attitude was the fresh look of a stylish high-school teen but the confidence of a full-grown adult lady.
